I had such a hard time naming our doodles. DH and I had our childrens names picked out while we were dating, so we never really agonized over it like I have the doodles. Then one day I realized I could change the dogs names anytime I wanted, as it's not like they have a Legal Birth Certificate or anything. Or I'd have to go to Court to get it changed.

I am seeing SO many dogs named Bella and I have never been the type to follow suit just because it was popular in anything. It bothers me a tad that it is so common. Who knew?

I think she would come to just about anything I called her. I tried "Come here Doggy" the other day and she came.

No, I wouldn't name her "Doggy" but you get the point.

So I am just tossing around some new names but do you think she'd have an identity crisis if I were to change it? Would she even care or notice? Just a thought.

I have seriously thought about changing Cooper's name.  It wasn't the first one I picked out.   I picked out "Charlie", but the boys in my house didn't like it, then I picked "Maxx", same thing.  No.  Then I thought about "Trucker" and "Lucky",   we had a Springer Spaniel named "Trucker".    They liked Cooper because he is a mini, but it sure seems like there are a lot of Coopers out there!   I call him Cooper Doodle or Mr Cooper a lot.   He answers to Bub and Dood too!  LOL!
No identity crisis since dogs identity isn't wrapped up in the word used to call them.  She'll be fine if you decide to switch.
Seems as though I can call her anything and she will probably be fine with it. It does seem to just be the tone. Been throwing out different names and she still looks at me and does what I ask. Funny how we just lost her name tag yesterday on a walk, Gotta go get a new one today.  Coincidence????Now if I can just decide what to call her. Any ideas?

Bella is a beautiful name...its only popular because of the Twilight series, I am sure. Don't change her name!!!

Thank you Nina. I guess when the Twilight series is no longer so popular that the name Bella will loose it;s popularity too. Maybe in a few years there will be less and less Bella's. I have been trying on new names, and nothng seems to be fitting.
I've never wanted to change their names, but people on our therapy visits change them all the time.  Many peopke call Sophie, Sadie (which was actually my 2nd choice for her name) and then this one guy at the veterans home always calls Lucy, Linda.
Funny you are bringing this up.  I had Bexter's name chosen (a mix of Dexter & Baxter) looong before I ever got him.  Now, I'm wondering if I should've called him Teddy.  He looks JUST LIKE a teddy bear to me!

My husband named Hunter ~ not the pretty doodle name I wanted for my little girl.  We made a deal because we were having a hard time choosing what color we wanted our doodle so in the end I got to pick the puppy and he got to name her.  MANY times I have dreamed of changing her name, I have finally grown to love it (I think?!).

Bella is reminding me of the name "Ava".  When my daughter was born in 1999 (Ava Elizabeth)  the name Ava was not even ON the social security's 500 top name list, and neither was Isabella (and I wanted to call her Bella) that was my second favorite girls name.  In the end we chose Ava ~ now if you look at the social security name list both are in the top 10.  Oh well, what do you do.  I think Ava would have an issue with me if I started calling her by a new name but I don't think Hunter would care :-)

Yes, I would think Ava would have a problem with it even if she didn;t like her name, which I think is beautiful.
What about Betty, Velma, or Lola?  They are similar to Bella but perhaps not as popular.  I love that Ned's name is not common and Clancy's doesn't seem to be used a whole bunch either. But then, I tried to choose uncommon names for my children too and was successful two out of three.

Ha Ha Nancy, I can name her Betty and rename Murphy Barnie like the Rubbles. (Flintstones era).

I think most days she thinks her name is " Leave it" and I wouldn't be surprised if she responded to "Damn it" either.

I love the name Bella and especially like the way it sounds with Murphy  (I am pretty partial to Murphy too!)  I would never change Murphy's name because it matches him so well but Murphy seems to be pretty popular for a boy dog now too.   I don't think Bella would care if you changed her name though.  Our new puppy is being born any minute now (really any minute) and we get pick of the litter......if it is a boy we are going to call him Wilson Douglas and if we choose a girl we are going to call her Fiona June.

I love the name Bella and I wouldn't change it.
