Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

While it seems that Doodlekisses abounds with Doodlemoms, we can't let Father's Day go by without a big thank you to Doodledads.

It took me two years of not so subtle hints and outright begging to get my DH to agree to getting a dog. It had been at least 20 years since our first and only dog passed away due to cancer, our son was now 21 and we were basically footloose and fancy free. I'd say dog, he'd say too much work. I'd say dog, he'd say, I'm not cleaning up after it. I'd say dog, he'd say no way.

I wanted a big dog but my son had some allergies, mostly to cats, but it was too risky to get a dog and then find out he was allergic to it. I started researching low- allergy, large breed, non-shedding dogs, and eureka, the Labradoodle appeared. I was esctatic, a big shaggy non-shedding dog, how perfect was that? More research and a look at the price tag and I had even more convincing to do. I say, I've found the perfect dog for us, he took one look and said, "no way am I getting a dog called a doodle".

Well he finally caved and we brought home a little ball of fluff, Quincy the Goldendoodle. Before Quincy came home, I was thinking that I didn't want to leave him in a crate all day when I was working, I do shift work and it would only be a couple of days a week, but it seemed like a long time to leave a little baby alone so I asked DH if he would take him to work with him. He basically said I was nuts and it wasn't going to happen. Fast forward a couple of weeks and DH was going to work with Quincy in tow and loving every minute of it. Quincy went to work with Dad for over a year on the days that Mom was working. My DH quickly became the proud papa, bragging to anyone who would listen how good "Dad's boy was". I don't think it hurt that it got him lot's of attention from the female population. I had to keep reminding him it was the doodle they were interested in, not him.

I was looking through the photos on DK earlier this evening and DH was also looking at them while pretending to watch the hockey game. He has totally turned into just as much of a doodle lover as I am. The same man who was never having a dog called a doodle, tonight declared that he would like to have a house full of doodles.

While getting to know the folks on DK and reading the blogs and discussions it is obvious that the doodle dads play a big part in helping to love and care for the doodles. So on Father's Day, I'd like to take this time to say thank you to all the Doodle Dads for loving the doods and for putting up with us spending so much time on DK.

I originally started this as a blog but the suggestion was made to post  it as a discussion. So please post your tribute to your Doodledad and share any pictures of you doodle and dad that you would be willing to share.

I am going to delete the blog, so thanks to those who have already responded.

Sorry I accidentally deleted it before I read the responses. :<(

Great post Donna and very familiar story here as well. Now I have to let DH think Murphy is HIS and take all the credit for how wonderful he is. I can afford to be generous as he did recently agree to us adding Bella to our family.

And yes, doodles are quite the Chick magnets. Fortuantly the females are usually 6-16 yrs old, so no threat there.

This shows me how few pictures we have with the doodles. I am going to make a point of taking more. Thanks

Donna, Wasn't this a blog yesterday? I posted a comment and it is gone :(
Laurie, yes it was and I'm sorry, I was going to copy the comments and add them but I accidentally deleted it before I could do that. BTW, you didn't read down far enough. :>) Someone asked me to put it in the discussions instead so that's what I did. Now you get busy and add some pictures of doodles and dad, I know you have a great Doodledad, I've seen the evidence.

Donna, I love the pictures and love how your husband 'adjusted' to his furry son!  When I was married, my ex always loved the dogs and treated them like his children.  And he also loved the fact that when he walked the dogs, they were what he called 'a chick magnet'!  Women would just fawn all over this man walking little dogs and 'how cute', etc.

So, 'Happy Father's Day' to Quincy's dad.  I'm still too pissed to say it to my ex!!

Funny how walking a cute dog gets so much attention, I sometimes get a little tired of answering questions. :>)

OMD...first my comment gets deleted, then I repost my comment and I accidentally delete it before I hit reply. I am exhausted over this discussion. Donna, Great collage and thanks for the reminder. Fudge and Vern have a great doodle dad and he has a much needed sense of humor. We are lucky. My computer is shot, so I am using his and have no pictures to post at this time, BUT, imagine a gray haired Brad Pitt.

Your DH sounds like a very nice guy and he loves his Quincy. What more could you ask for??

Laurie, it scares me sometimes how much we both love this doodle. My DH is always saying, it's all about the doodle. We have been shopping for a new car and the first thing he checks is the back seat to see how much room there is for the doodle. He used to be interested in the back seat for other reasons but that was a looooooooong time ago. :>)

Sorry your computer is out of commission I do love your pictures, hope you didn't lose them. I just had to pay $100 for a new charger for mine, the result of dragging it across the room without unplugging it.

ps I'm still in flannels and I want some warm weather.

Awww..Donna, I think that is nice. I think when we were younger we ran around doing for our kids and now that the kids are mostly grown, it is nice to have something like our doodles just for us. I know I appreciate them more than I ever did any other dog, because I think the timing is perfect. My DH loves our Fudge and Vern too and Fudge, especially, is just gaga over him. I wouldn't want a man who did not like dogs. My new computer is coming in next week. I hate not having my pictures, etc. at hand.
Thanks for posting. LOVED all the pics. Have some fabulous pics of my doods and their dad but not as clever as you and have no idea how to make that picture collage. Yes indeed, dads and their doodles are amazing. In actual fact, I think I have been replaced by my two as they both get the first and last kiss of the day, which used to me mine...but I would not have it any other way....

LOL, my DH always says hello to Quincy first, I tell myself it's because he runs to the door to greet him. Frances, there is a free simple little program that you can download called Picasa, it is useful for basic editing and making collages. It is really easy to use and you can even resize your photos with it.

After readying this, I realized I don't have many pictures of DH and Rua.  I do have several from not too long ago, but my DH was in the Jacuzzi tub and Rua jumped in and joined him.  I have been forbidden to post those ANYWHERE.  I loved your story, Donna.  Even though my DH had been the dog person before, he didn't want another one.  I had to work hard on convincing him to get one.  SHE IS THE LIGHT OF HIS LIFE!  Oh my...he just loves his little girl.  She has him wrapped around her little paw.

So, to repeat what you said...a big thank you to all of the Doodle Dads out there who support us OCDM's (Obsessive Compulsive Doodle Mom's) and those few brave Dad's who have "come out" and are actually on DK!  Happy Father's Day to all of you!

Rua is a lucky little girl and Doodledad looks quite happy with his little girl.
