Yesterday I took Bo back to the groomer to get the ear hair plucked out of his ears.  He had gone to the groomer a week before for a bath, eye and sanitary area trim but the groomer didn't want to pluck his ears on the first visit.  She said it's not pleasant and she didn't want to 'scare him for life' for every going back to her for grooming.  Well......all I can say is, 'poor Bo'!!  He had so much hair deep, deep in his ears and it was really hard getting it all out.  One of his ears already showed signs of some nasties down there in the ear canal so it was a good thing we went when we did.

I've never had to deal with ear hair in a dog before but with Mr. Hairy Man; I'm going to have to really be faithful about cleaning that ear hair out weekly.

The BEST part of the story is though, even after the torture of getting the hair plucked, when the groomer got on the ground and called Bo to her to give him some luvin, he went right to her and showered her with kisses!  It made me cry.  He is SUCH a sweet, sweet boy and even after that ordeal, he still had love in his heart for her.  Could this breed be any sweeter?

I can totally sympathize with you on the "hairy ears".  I have a real hard time with the plucking, and I know I'm not getting all that hair down deep inside the ear.  My Vet always gives me a little "lecture" about how I need to do a better job at it.
I don't know Sandy.  Bo is only 14 weeks old and his hair was really, really deep.  The groomer had to twist the hair around the hemostat and pull.  It was so painful for him.  I felt terrible!  If Hattie's isn't deep yet, you can keep up with it by yourself.  I'm going to make it my mission to do it once a week so it never gets deep like that again.
Darwin has super hairy ears too! I do almost all of his grooming but for some reason I can't seem to pluck his ear hair. We always have to take him in to get it done. He's not a fan, but he's a good sport. :-) Bo sounds like such a sweet forgiving pup!

I'm right there with you Camilla.  They both have hairy ears, but I always say Kona has enough hair in her little ears to cover another dog!!!!  I just can't bring myself to pull that hair out, it is so thick and all I can think about is how I feel when it is just a little eyebrow hair coming off my face......

Bo, you are not alone in your hairiness :P

What a trooper!! I cannot pluck their hair on my own, just can't!
My vet told me not to pluck Sophie Bears hairy ears. She said that plucking will cause the skin to be red and inflamed which will irritate her more and the inflamation means her ears will become warm so they will be more prone to grow bacteria. I've actually heard that hair can act as a natural filter for bacteria, just like the hair in your nose... and other areas. I'm not sure if any of this is true, but if the vet says don't pluck, I'm not going to complain. Sophie goes bonkers everytime I try to get anywhere close to her ears, so cleaning them with solution is a mega ordeal.
Aw, what a trooper!!! It's a great sign that he didn't get turned off from the groomer after the ear plucking.

There are certainly two schools of thought out there on this and I have to say I have often wondered myself if too much plucking is bad and can make matters worse. When Murphy was having his worse issues with infections, the vet had me pluck every last bit, but this was really hard on the ear tissue I thought. I don;t pluck the ears bald anymore, but I do keep it fairly neat and clean so that it doesn't stay too moist. I have no real answer here either. And no, this breed just couldn't be any sweeter.!!
