Jack seems to have found a new hobby. He is licking his penis all the time, and sorry for the TMI but it is actually exposed and not in the skin. BLEAK

It is not red, swollen of inflamed, his urine test not that long ago was fine. How much is normal behavior and what the heck do I do to stop it? It really grosses me out and I am tempted to put little boy underwear on him to make him stop.

Any advise??? Where else is one to go to ask a questions such as this?

I did take Jack the ER for a tick when he was a little puppy, and when I handed Jack to them I still had my nursing uniform on with my badge that Jennifer C RN Trauma and Emegency department!! Yup that's right folks...The guy laughed so hard they didn't charge me...
No, if you ever start to feel embarrassed by your behavior with your dog, just think of me, I will make you look totally sane. I belong in the Hall of Shame for reasons to bring your dog to the emergency vet. I could care less how much it cost.. Don't mess with my baby...
I already pay my vet off with baked good for not throwing me out of the clinic. They just smile and appease me and do and run whatever test I read about recently on the internet, Once in a while they suggest I stay off the internet but if that was the case, Jack would be eating Pedigree food.

Hi Jen...

No...you don't need to run to the emergency clinic tonight with Jack!  (smile)

I did some research for you...and the main reasons for this type of licking are allergies...urinary tract infections and yeast.

So...it would be best to give your Vet a call tomorrow...and bring Jack in for a check up!

Let me know how the appointment goes...

Hugs and Love from Sasha and Me...

Thanks I bet it is allergies or something, There is no sign of yeast and his urine has been checked since he started his new hobbie. Thanks for checking

Hugs back

Hobbie? Oh yes that is what boys call it, a hobbie.

I don't know what else to call it.. It seems to be his favorite pass time. I am going to bet it is allergies because he also has been licking his paws.. I guess it is time to give him his antihistamine again... and btw the way. Jack's response to you all making fun of him, Well I can't say it because it is not yappy hour so you know it is a good one.

We always called it the "red rocket".

One of the reasons we got a girl dog by the way.

:o)

I just gave him an allergy pill.. The only undies I have in a small child's size are a little girls, don't ask me how I got them but Jack will be wearing Cinderella undies soon if he doesn't stop.

He is very playful, great eating, great peeing.

okay, you are gonna think this is totally crazy, but speaking as one RN to another, maybe not. When my patients have a yeast infection, thrush on mom's breast, we do advise them to do a diluted apple cider vinager rinse if they can't get to the doctor asap. It can be soothing and help to neutralize some of the pH and growth. As for Jack, I prescribe:  a COLD shower and a little dab of vinager to the "affected" area.  I have given my two ACV in their foods as well, so it will be safe if he does lick. Worth a try if you have any.

Thank you Sue, I am a huge firm believer in apple cider vinegar, I am not into holistic medicine at all, usually. I as an ER nurse have seen people actually kill themselves because they depleted their system of mag, or sodium and have a massive MI and die. However I have osteoporosis and severe joint pain, I also lack a lot of energy and have such severe reflux they are considering a Nissen wrap on me.

I started running about year and half ago.. (currently on hold) I was complaining about my joints hurting, and the women told me to drink Braggs apple cider vinegar in the raw (with the mother) which means the pulp. I drink just two teaspoons a day, usually in a home made sports drink and my joint pain is so much better and so is my reflux. My dad''s wife has RA and severe pain and she has taken it as well, she went overboard and took too much because it was working so well.

I am a fan of that Jack does not seem to be licking it this am, he ate his full breakfast, He is going to play for the day as I won't be home at all till tonight. If he is licking tonight I will do that. I think it is allergies.

Thank you for your advice.

Make sure you take a picture of Jack in his Cinderella undies for the slide show!  That would be too cute!  You all are cracking me up - and also grossing me out because I have a boy dog too!  I was nervous about all the potential for problems with that.  My hubby just said today, "I wish I could rub his belly without bumping into something!"  Bexter has been humping us & I'm trying to get him to stop.  And now this to look forward to???  Glad I love my boy anyway!
