Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since summer is upon us and the heat is on, my doodles seem to be permanently drinking from the many sources of water containers scattered throughout the house and garden. Every time they drink, they love to share-the-wealth by placing they very water-soaked chins on our laps...which gives one quite a shock when there is shorts involved:) My husband is so tired of 1) the trails of water they leave behind on the floor and 2) the permanent wet chins, so he wants to "SHAVE" their beards which he thinks will cure the problem....!!!! My question is; has anyone come up with a better idea for their doodles that will alleviate this ongoing problem? I love their darling beards but the only time they are dry, is first thing in the morning when they have been sleeping all night and not drinking. We do have "burp" clothes by every drinking source, but would have to pay a person a full time job to keep their chins dry.....Advice needed please........:)

You are a good doodle mum. I am going to trim my two down. I am fine with the wet beards but truly, my houseguests are having a tough time with it. Funny what we actually get used to....and did not realize how obnoxious a wet beard on one's thigh was until the pointed it out..hee. hee.
I have to say that I'm not so sure it is all to blame on the beards.  I don't have this problem with my girls, but I've had a couple of fosters for whom I had to keep a mop close by as there as water everywhere when they were drinking.  One of them was a big ole male that had been shaved down before he came so he had hardly any facial fur.  It might help some with the wet laps, but don't think it is going to help much with the water on the floor.  I could be wrong though.
From all the replies I am getting, I am beginning to think it differs from doodle to doodle. I think I just have the pleasure of two slobber-chops...but I would not swap them for anything :)

My groomer took it upon herself to cut the beard down, and I love it now. Much cleaner and a lot less dripping. It's just a much younger look for them all together.

Yes, I think it looks great!
Sue the look is nice....however I LOVE that collar more than anything.
That is exactly how Gracie Doodle's chin looks.  I keep it short because she "lives" in water!  If it is available she will find it.  Plus, she is a girl and I don't like long beards on girls!  IMO
Hi Nancie. I do love their beards but hate the mess and the feel. The scissors are coming out and the beards are going tomorrow. xx
Beautiful...I am doing it. Thank you.
My puppy Riley likes to try to climb into his water bowl so I have wet foot prints all over the kitchen floor lol

Nicky - Stuart also trys to swim in his bowl.  He keeps flooding the floor so now I give him tiny bits more often but he is a real mess maker.

Jane -- Sophie was a water bowl swimmer when she was little (and still will given the chance), but I bought this bowl (actually for food but I use for water) and it solved the swimming problem.
