Our doodle who is 10 weeks loves to sleep under tables and in corners. She enjoys her crate when she is put in there and never cries. We have a nice little bed for her but she has NO interest in it. Is it normal that she likes to sleep away from us? She is a happy little girl with tons of puppy energy!
Thank your doodle stars!! Bandit is pretty easy and loves little knooks and crannies too, he is in his crate now by his own free will in the other room. Rosey is right next to me on the couch...she has a bed in our room but would NEVER crate and is a bit more of a velcro dog..
Yes, it's normal, I think some doods just like to get comfy in a quiet place. Darwin sleeps in separate rooms from us all of the time. The bathroom, kitchen, our bedroom, etc.
When we built our house 25 years ago we built a bench in the laundry with a cupboard on each end, my DH has built a bed on legs to fit in there, it's about 4 feet long and about 2 1/2 to 3 feet wide. We had a Beagle at the time and he slept there it's like a little cave. Rusty our late Dood would not sleep there, after one stormy night when soft DH said he was scare and brought him into our room that was it, that's where he slept til he passed. Jasper is different he loves his little cave But at night 9.30 he wants to go to bed and if you don.t take the hint he will often take himself off to bed and we don't hear a sound til we wake up.
Cooper is 2 and has never had much interest in her bed. We have tried big comfy ones, flat mats, and beds in between. She prefers the cool floor or the plastic tray of her crate!
Riley is 13 and a half weeks old. He goes into his crate very happily at night or even on his own during the day and other times chooses the coldest floor, tiles or wood. He also like one of the old couches he's allowed on. It seems to vary throughout the day and he doesn't mind in the least being in another room to me or if I have to leave for an hour. He also loves his cuddles and gets a half hour on the bed in the morning after he has been fed and been out. That usuallyconsists of snuggling up between us and getting lots of Doodle hugs and kisses.
I used to keep the dogs in the bedroom with us at night and shut the door. Vern was up half the night, so one night I just opened the door and we have never looked back. They both like to sleep far away from us out in the foyer (the coolest place in the house). They may wander in once in a while, but for the most part sleep out there. Our Fudge will walk back to our bedroom when she wants to take a nap and we hoist her up onto the bed (she will not jump up or down on the bed) and stay there by herself for a couple of hours. I like it. I have had velcro dogs and I much prefer them being a little more independent, even if I do have to lift Princess Fudge onto the bed....LOL!
Our older one always found weird places to nap and slept fine in her crate-the younger one hated being away from us! We gave up and now they sleep with us. We have all kinds of beds and when we put them out they are never interested they prefer the couch! That's very good that your puppy is not clinging to you! Good luck!
