Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Aunt is a dog trainer and when my mother told her we were getting a Goldendoodle, she told her to tell me not to! That every Goldendoodle that she has had in her puppy classes (I don't know how many that is) has been aggressive towards the other dogs. Has anyone else had issues with that or heard of that before? I'm sure you can understand that as someone who has already chosen my puppy and is going to pick her up on Saturday, this may be disturbing to hear!!

That's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard! Our doodles are the most docile creatures I've ever seen-- with animals and folks of all sizes, shapes, and ages.
I am glad to hear this! You can imagine my surprise and what my aunt said considering it completely contradicts all the information I have read! :)
I agreee 100%
Dawn, Connor is 13 months old. He was rescued with his sibs from a puppy mill @ 13 weeks. Even with his rough start, this boy does not have one aggressive bone in his body. He is sweet, loving, hilarious, loves little kids and other dogs -- even our cats. He cannot understand if another dog is cross with him. We are currently in an all doodle intermediate obedience class working toward a CGC. There are 7 doodles in the class. There is one guy who is uncomfortable around the other 6, but I think maybe he is overwhelmed and has not been around other dogs before. Our trainer loves goldendoodles because of their even temperment and loving nature. I know they can be goofy, sometimes stubborn, but as a whole I don't think you could have made a better choice. Give your baby lots of hugs, kisses and as soon as she gets all her shots, socialize her as much as possible. Get her into training classes. You will end up with the dog of your dreams.
Thank you so much. That makes me feel much better. I don't even have her yet, but I have already enrolled her into puppy class due to start when she is 11 wks old. I got concerned for a second...especially since I have 3 small (ages 6, 4 and almost 2) children. I cannot do aggressive!! Thank you so much for the positive feedback.
Hi Dawn - I was at a doodle romp last year and we had close to 50 dogs there...no issues. I think that will be the least of your problems. But with 3 small children, I wanted to recommend a book to you. http://www.amazon.com/Living-Kids-Dogs-Without-Losing-Your/dp/19335... . It's going to be harder for you to train your children how to behave around the puppy, than it will be to train the dog how to behave around them! Good luck!
That looks like a great book...thank you so much for that link. I have been reading "Puppies for dummies" and "Raising puppies and kids together"...but I will gladly read another if it helps me keep my sanity! Thanks again.
Geez !!! This sounds like another round of doodle bashing.... do not worry - since goldendoodles obviously inherit their temperaments from golden retrievers and poodles; the likelyhood of getting an aggressive dog is close to 0.
Hi Dawn. Our Wrigley is almost five months old and she's through her first half of puppy school. She has not been aggressive to any of the other dogs. A few have been aggressive toward her though. (One little beagle in particular - he ONLY goes after Wrigley, week after week.) No, I cannot agree with your aunt on this one.
Hey Dawn! I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as aggression goes - that should be the least of your worries. We have two Goldendoodles who will be a year old in a couple of weeks and I have never seen them be aggressive. One of our neighbors has 2 German shepherds and every time I take the girls for a walk, these 2 seem to be just waiting for us to come down the street so they can charge at us. Thankfully they have an invisible fence so they won't come out into the street after us. But Morgan and Maddie just stop and stare at them every time they do that. They never even make a sound. Maybe that's what drives the shepherds so crazy - they can't get a rise out of us!! So enjoy your baby and be sure to post lots of pictures!!
Dawn
I think golden doodles are the perfect family pet....I never heard about doodles that are agressive
Neither Halas nor the other doodles we've met have been aggressive towards other dogs. In fact, Halas is very submissive.
