I was just up close and personal with Toby - kissing his head :) - when I noticed that on his front left paw he seems to have an extra paw pad - put it's hard and sticking straight out - about an  inch or so.  Very strange.  It almost look like a miniature horn or something, and it seems harder than a paw pad.  I know my explanation is not very good.  Does this sound like anything anyone has heard of?  It's weird, but I don't want a vet visit for something that is nothing.  It isn't tender, as I've felt it, and the texture, now that I think of it, seems harder than a paw pad.  Any thoughts at all????

I would guess that's the dew claw.  They remove the actual nail, but leave the pad.  Is it about where a thumb would be, up on the back of the ankle?

It actually  kind of sticks out the side.  It's also way bigger than a claw.  I know he still has his dew claws - my son's girlfriend trims them for me.  It's on the inside of the paw, beside the biggest pad.
A picture might help.
I thought of that, but he's black, and it's black, and I'm not sure it will show up very well.
At least we could get an idea and see the exact location.

I will try.  :)

Here is the best picture I could get.

OK, you have to let us know what this is! First time ever that you saw this??
It is hard to tell from the photo. if you know where his dew claws are, and this is something else, I don't have a clue. I think I would ask the vet when you have a chance.
Thank you!  I will get it checked out.  I know it looked like a horn.  I've never noticed it until now.
