Tonight while I was enjoying a glass of wine on the patio I watched in horror as a car took a left turn and and sent a guy on his bike flying through the air. He bounced on the ground. He was concious but he clearly hit his head and broke his arm. It was horrifying to watch, but I was impressed with how quickly and efficiently everyone responded. He is lucky it wasn't worse. I'm still feeling a little traumatized by it all. I can't imagine how the guy driving the car must have felt.
This exact same scenario almost happened to me once about 10 years ago, but the car missed me. Unfortunately I had hit my brakes hard in panick and went flying off my bike, if it weren't for the fact that my foot got caught I would have gone head first into the ground. The doctor chided my for not wearing a helmet, saying that one of his patience had recently died from a similar accident and a helmet would have saved him.
So I just wanted to say for all you bike riders out there - please wear your helmets when you ride your bike. It could save your life.

Good reminder!! I'd like to add that it's not just bikes and motorcycles though- rollerbladers and skaters and skateboarders need to wear helmets too!
I have a big scar on my forehead from falling off my skateboard, but luckily I was wearing a helmet and didn't injure myself badly. I also have a scar on my scalp somewhere from falling on my rollerblades, but I wasn't wearing a helmet! I wouldn't have that scar if I'd been wearing a helmet.
Now that I rollerblade with Sunny, I make sure I'm protected in case she sees a squirrel and jerks me off the skates.
Sherri,
You sure have had lots of crazy things happen to you lately! That would have scared me to death seeing that! I'm glad everyone seems to be ok.
My hubby is an avid bike rider and he always wears a helmet. Every Saturday he meets up with his buddies to ride the trails along the river. Every week he comes home saying he sees families out riding - the kids are wearing helmets but the parents aren't. Everyone should wear a helmet.
Thanks Sherri for the reminder.
