I have a list of websites with gorgeous Dog beds.  I love the mattress types and the good ones are expensive but I wonder if I will be wasting my money?  I have Vet bed in Riley's crate and he spends a while every evening scrunching it up into the corner and he then sleeps on the horrible tin floor.  During the day he loves the coldest tile floors.  It is not warm here so it's not like he needs to cool down though he does sleep sometimes on the couch.  I would love to get one of those beds for the winter but is this a crazy waste?  Is Riley unusual? and has anyone else bought a gorgeous bed and regretted it.

I've seen this type of duvet cover starting to appear in many places.  I've even seen one that has a bag for the inside that it says you stuff with old T-shirts and then you just toss them all in the washer once they are soiled.
Maddie has 2 big flat pillows she lays on once in a while - one is in our bedroom and one is in the family room.  Her bed of choice is the hardwood floor or the rug at the front door and on a really hot day it's the kitchen grate that the central air blows out of.
Coopers favourite places are the bathroom floor (lino) the lounge floor (laminate) and at night under our bed (carpet). She too will scrunch all her bedding in her crate to the side and sleep on the  cool plastic tray. Even when its not warm here

I bought several beds for Sunny, but she prefers the floor or wherever I am. Right now she's snuggled up next to me on the couch!

At night, she sleeps either in my bed or in my beanbag.

Nicky, I am glad you posted this because I have been wondering the same thing!  Cubbie has always slept in a bed and prefers one that has sides on it that he can nestle against.  When we adopted Ollie he came with a crate and a sad thin looking crate pad.  We have since gotten rid of his crate and given him one of Cubbie's "extra" beds.  I will occasionally find Ollie lying in that bed, but most nights he prefers to lie on the wood floor in our bedroom.  Doesn't seem very comfortable to me, but he seems to like it.  I had been looking at some eco friendly bed (they use a stuffing made from recycled pop cans) but I don't want to get one that he isn't going to even use.  I am thinking about trying a cheap one to see if he will even be interested in it before I invest in a nicer one.  I'm glad to know that Ollie isn't the only odd dog out there though!

My dogs sleep on human pillows, our bed, or a couch. Yes, my dogs have their own couch.  The doodle couch.  We have a nice cot--for dogs, but I'm ready to donate the cot to the shelter.

Nothing is better than a couch in front of the big picture window. Just ask my dogs   :)

Years ago, I too wondered whether my dog would use an expensive foam dog bed if he had one. So, I took one of my old queen-size eggcrate foam bed toppers, cut it into four large rectangles, stacked the pieces on top of each other and stuffed them into a bed cover that I bought on sale for $6 at Drs. Foster & Smith. Hercules spent most of his time on that bed during the colder season, and about half-time during the warmer weather, because the ceramic tile floor kept him much cooler. Now you can barely see my floor because I have four large expensive dog beds with different thicknesses for him and Zeus to choose from.

Anyway, you might want to try this inexpensive method to "test the waters" with Riley before breaking open the piggy bank. If you don't have any unneeded foam laying around, I noticed Big Lots had large foam beds for about $20, which were actually not a bad quality.

What a great idea, thanks.
nope, Sophie Bear never sleeps on her bed, and always pushes  the blankets in her crate to the side, so I've stopped putting them in there. The cat sleeps on the dog bed beside my bed, Sophie Bear sleeps on the floor. She likes lounging on the couch sometimes, staring out the window, just like a cat.
We used an egg crate in the crates.  Shredded.  My dogs preferred nothing in the crate also.
Yes, Gracie Doodle does sleep on a VERY comfy bed...OURS!!

Tara's order of  bed preference:

1. Hardwood floor

2 Donut bed (fun to play in and cozy for sleeping (she ate the first one we got her though!)

3 Old grungy flannel sheet

4. Large "regular" dog bed (stuffed but flat) Rarely used. I don't think she would miss it if it disappeared.

I don't know about others but it took a while for Tara to realize that a bed was for laying on and not just a giant stuffy waiting to be unstuffed. :)
