We are looking into some sort of invisible fence. Our property really isn't conducive to the wireless PetSafe product that most our friends have. (the one that gives the 90 feet circle radius). The reviews on the other wireless products are not great so we are thinking of installing a wired invisible fence.  What brand of invisible fence do you have?  Do you use rechargeable collars or battery? Thanks!

We have the Invisible Fence brand fence and it has been great for us. We had great trainers come to the house to help us train the dogs and the customer service has been great. I am very happy with our decision to go with their company. There have been some recent discussions on Invisible Fencing and the types that DK users have. You might want to search that topic on this site and get some more info.

We have the Innotek Contain & Train. I put the link below for you, it's not where I ordered it but it was the first link I found, we have been really happy with it. It has the rechargeable collar, and it only needs charged about once a month over night. It is a really light collar and does not have the big bulky box that some have. If you check my photos you will see it in plenty of Hunters photos. I did have to have the collar replaced but the warranty covered it and they sent it FedEx. They have great customer service, I had a problem with the transmitter on the wall, it was actually something I had set wrong and they talked me through how to fix it on the phone. We have never had any breaks in the line, nothing. I followed the training video exactly and she was trained in less than 2 weeks. She will not cross the line for anything at all, not even her mortal enemies the squirrels. Lol! We installed it ourselves, well my husband did. They actually rent a machine at Home Depot that you put the line in and it cuts the ground and puts the wire in it. It took him less than 2 hours to finish completely and our yard is just under an acre. It goes across our drive way and we put it in the break and put waterproof calk over it and it is perfect. I know several people in our neighborhood with electric fences and the only two that never have problems are us, our next door neighbor with an Innotek and another with the Invisible Fence brand.

Let me know if you have any other questions about it :-).

I have the Petsafe brand fence and absolutely love it.  It was easy to install with help, I followed the instructions exactly, trained my dogs according to the directions and had not problem what so ever.  I tried the collar on myself first because I would not put anything on my dogs that would cause them pain and I myself am a big baby when it comes to pain.  It feels uncomfortable but not painful.  Both Sasha and Oliver have only gotten to the vibrate part and backed off.  My system has 3 stages, first is a beep, second is a vibrate and third is the zap.  I have mine set to the lowest setting and both dogs know and respect the boundries.  The key is to do the training exactly as the instructions say and you will have no problem.  When I got the fence system my property was fenced on three sides but across the front of the house was no fence.  I am a avid gardner and have a koi pond as well.  I wanted to keep the dogs out of the pond and out of the garden so be best for me was the Petsafe fence.  I now have my property completely fenced but still use the e-fence system because of the garden and pond.  I have even chopped thru the wire twice while planting bushes and just twisted the wires back together, taped and burried them and was fine.  The fence system works for me and my two doodles 110%.

I have the Invisible Fence brand one for my dachshund, Reba. We had used it successfully for 11 years before getting Sunny. Sunny would not pay attention to the boundary AT ALL, so we built a physical fence for half the yard, and left the invisible fence for Reba.
I have DogWatch - works great the trainer wasn't very good but the boys are doing well with it.

If you're open to alternatives to an invisible fence, I know one that might save you some money. It would be too costly to fence in my entire back yard and my adoption contract prohibits invisible fences, so I went to Home Depot and bought a 100' roll of 4' high cattle fencing and posts. Total cost was about $118 and I installed it by myself in about 2 hours. Attaching it to a portion of the back of my house gave me an extra 24 feet of playpen area, so it's a nice size for two big dogs to romp around in.
