Toby has his surgery a week ago Thursday, and he is getting STINKY. He normally doesn't need many baths, but I guess with the stress, the surgical smell, the sweating in the head area from wearing the cone (which will still be on for a few days) he is getting quite.....aromatic. I know he has matts under his chin and around his neck from the cone. I don't think he'll be able to have a bath for probably a week more. The question is, what is good for removing doggy scent? I have shampoo, but I never feel like it leaves him smelling like much of anything. :)
I'll second the dry shampoo and/or leave-in conditioner for the poor fella. I have one for Lach made of emu oil and mango that leaves a nice, clean scent.
Possibly, but I really think it's mostly his head area that smells. The heat is just trapped there with the cone on. Since we have to upgrade to the 30 cm cone from the 25 cm cone it's even worse. We have the air conditioning on. Hubby and I are cold, but the dood in comfortable. :)
I use Quick Bath on my huge furball, Hercules, in between his groomings if he starts getting stinky. They're awesome! It's like a Wet-Wipe, so it'd be perfect to use on Toby and will make him smell nice and refreshed again.
Hercules is about 80 lbs. also. I think my mom bought the Quick Bath wipes from Walmart. When she gave them to me, I thought, "Nice gesture, but this won't do a thing for my big fluffy kid." Months later, I finally tried one and was amazed. He smelled really nice and felt clean, so I've been using them regularly since.
I've used the pet wipes made by Nature's Miracle that have a lavender scent. They smell good--not strong or artificial. I think that "wipes" is a misleading name, though--you definitely have to scrub more than wipe to get any dirt off.
Both my dogs got smelly when they were wearing the cone. Take it off daily and wash thoroughly and dry before putting back on him. He will probably love a little break from the cone. Where is the site of the surgery? Wearing a cone for over a week sounds like a long time. If the surgery is on his rear end, you could wash his legs and head and chest. Poor guy. He must be uncomfortable also.
