Relax, have some more wine and be thankful Irene said "Goodnight" to Florida. Wilma left us without power for
21 days. Something we will never forget! And, how does you phone work without power? I need one!
POOL!!!!!!!
Jane, I feel so bad for you. After hurricane Francis when electricity was off for days, I lasted about 24 hours without air conditioning and packed the car and didn;t stop till I got to a hotel in Orlando. The only reason I lasted that long is because I was at the hospital for my Hurricane Duty and we couldn't leave until the next shift could travel on the roads to get in to relieve us. I am glad you didn't get the hurricane, but no air in Aug in Fla. is about as bad as it gets!
Sounds like all your preparations paid off, good for you.
Jane, I am so sorry you lost power and it is so hot and muggy. The one and only time I was in Florida was this time of year and it was like a huge down blanket was smothering us, but at least we were by swimming pools. Well, we were by swimming pools except when the lightning storms came, but then it rained and we felt much better - wet, but cooler. We bought some small battery fans at Walmart that we use in our RV when we can't hook up to power to sleep. They work pretty well and were cheap!

****************Electric came back on last night************
I've learned some lessons from this very small inconvenience. When it was raining very hard I pushed a couple of buttons on a remote and lowered the back hurricane screens across the lanai, it keeps the furniture dry. Well guess what happens when the electric goes out and the rain is gone - they don't go back up - never occurred to me that if we were out of power for days that this would really restrict - light, airflow, and access to the pool. Next storm I would leave the end panel partway up.
