Well, Hattie has been damp down there for a long time now, maybe as long as I have had her. I talked to the vet once about it about two months ago when she peed in her sleep twice and was damp a lot then. So today I called again and took her a pee sample because I noticed she was wet again. The vet said there were white cells indicative of of low grade infection and gave her a 14 day round of antibiotics. The vet said we start here and if this doesn't clear it up we would progress on to hormone replacement therapy for two weeks to see if that will work. If that doesn't work then surgery to repair something or other. I tuned out because it was kind of scary. So today's vet bill was just short of my annual insurance premium. Please say a little prayer for Hattie that this is just a UTI. She also said she has an "outie" meaning she has a little crease in her vulva instead of it being smooth so it lends itself to infection easier.

Sandy, hope your Hattie Rose responds to her antibiotics and is healthy after those14 days are over!  Brulee and I are pulling for a quick and complete recovery!
Sandy, I hope this turns out to be a UTI. Sounds like you are handling everything perfectly! Fingers and paws crossed here.

About the "outtie" how do you know it is an "outtie". Molly has an outside lump, but much lower then where Jack's is.. it is all enclosed but still, I have no idea if that is normal.

As far as the UTI,  I know it is way more common in girl puppies then boys to get UTI's, as you know Jack has been living a kidney/UTI infection and other issues since he was six months old, oddly right about the same time he was neutered.

We have already gotten so many years worth of premiums from Jacks' pet plan and I am daily sending them bills upwards of a 100 dollars, between ER visits, medications and  other tests.  Specialist are only covered 80 percent on his plan, that was the best I could get but that is still great..

I will never let Jack, (nor Molly for my mom) be without insurance because you can have a healthy dog and never need it until you do, then most likely it will be too late...

I hope she feels better... I got great advice on here about cultures and other things...

Keep us updated...

It looks like this:

(This is not Lily though. I would say Lily's isn't quite tucked in as much as the dog in the photo. The vulva should be popped out more, without that fold/ring of skin around it. That is what traps all of the urine and bacteria. )

Jennifer- An outside lump like maybe a hernia? (Inguinal or umbilical) I would think though, that if she had a hernia, your vet would have noticed it at your puppy exam. Or was she an early spay too, and it is where her suture line is maybe still disolving/healing?
No she is not an early spay and she does not look like that picture, It is completely wrapped up and covered, it reminds me of Jack, when he is not sick and stuck out, it just looks like skin is enfolded around it, I can't see any of her parts... She looks the same as Jack but lower if that makes sense.
Doodle hugs to Hattie...hope she is ok and the antibiotics work
Poor Hattie:  Ouch, those infections hurt.  I would also check in with breeder and let her know what is going on.  If she has to have surgery, the breeder should pay for it if you have a health guarantee.  She was born with an outie, which is genetic.

Poor Hattie-I hope that it gets cleared up without surgery. wow, it didn't take long to make good of your pet insurance.

Hope it's not too serious.

Poor little Hattie!  I hope she gets better soon!  I'm glad you have the pet insurance!  Keep us posted!
