The vet recommended a pill (can't remember the name) that the dogs can take that is for Fleas/Tick and Heart worms.
I haven't been on DK long, but I'm sure it has been discussed in the past, so if anyone has any input, that would be great.
Which is the best choice for fleas/tick and heartworms?

Was it Revolution? It does protect against fleas and heartworms and a bunch of other stuff. Not sure about ticks.
There is also Sentinel that is for heartworms and fleas. We use Heartgard and Frontline for fleas/ticks.
Revolution heartworm and flea is a topical liquid medication which is used for heartworm prevention, flea prevention, and the prevention and control of ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and American dog ticks. It is used once a month and is applied conveniently at one spot on the skin. It can be used for dogs and cats 6 weeks or older. This monthly topical application prevents heartworms while controlling fleas and ear mites.
That's it. Trifexis. That is what I am giving Kahlua and Paxton. Seems to be working, although, Lisa (above) said that the Trifexis doesn't work against ticks. Since both dogs are house dogs, I'm not too worried about that. They rarely go outside the backyard and if we are out, they are on a leash. You are right about the cost, I thought it was better to just get them in one pill rather than having the topical and pill combo.
I haven't seen any side effects, have you?
I don't use that kind of pill that combines heartworm and flea medication because there is no protection against ticks, and it's not a prevention. It only kills the fleas after they bite, or interrupts their reproduction cycle and doesn't kill them at all!
I use Iverhart for heartworm protection and Advantix for flea/tick prevention.
