Hi everyone I need some advice. We are supposed to pick up Lola Saturday. She is 12 weeks old. I just found out today that I am pregnant! Do you think a year old pup will be fine with a brand new baby??

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I was hoping that since the puppy will be a year old when I have the baby that it might be ok. I know a younger pup would be very difficult with a new baby just because of training, especially potty training. I just wanted to make sure it isn't a big no no.
If you have friends with babies...get puppy used to being near them (with CLOSE supervision)..that and young kids too.
Congrads, best wishes to all.
I don't know anything about human babies, so take this for what it's worth, but I think it will work out great! You can have your puppy well trained, socialized, and used to babies by the time your baby arrives. They'll be great friends. My parents had a schnauzer puppy when I was born, and they said he was always great with me. He'd lay on my blanket with me, and he would only let people he knew pick me up. Unauthorized people were not allowed to pick up HIS baby.
We always had big dogs and they were great around our children. As a matter of fact, my daughter (now 35) teethed on milk bones! Seriously, she would crawl and steal them from the dogs, so we bought her her own special box! LOL

She says that is why she has never had a cavity or needed braces.

Seriously, we had Newfies and English Mastiffs, when my kids were little and we never had a problem. Big dogs seem to have an innate sense of their size around babies and practically tiptoe.

Even Cealeach, who has all the finesse of a bulldozer, is very gentle and calm around babies.

Congratulations on both the puppy and the baby.

That's (daughter with own milk bone box) so funny :-)
Congrats to you!! What an exciting time. I think you will all do fine. If you can, socialize Lola with other babies. We have a year old male who is the sweetest, most gentle little guy in the world. I bet a year and a half from now we'll read stories about how they have bonded. Congrats again!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!!, I feel the same, by a year old your doodle will adjust well to the new baby. Take the pup to obedience classes before the baby comes, that will help! Socialize, socialize socialize !
I'm sure you will be fine! Remember you have 9 months to prepare and plenty of time to work with you dog and train her by the time the baby comes. Labradoodles are wonderful with children! Lucy (my doodle) seeks them out to play with in the park. Lola and your child will learn to love each other and grow up together. T
Thank you everyone. I am so excited I could almost burst. LOL. We are going to get Lola tomorrow!!! I lover her so much already. She is already my baby. And may be my maternal hormones are already kicking in. May be this will help me get through the next nine months. I will be so excited to meet my human baby too. :)
Congratulations! A big year, 2 new babies! I'm sure the timing really couldn't be better! I would mention it to your breeder and make sure that you are getting a pup with a little lower energy & or alpha personality. We got ourselves a girl who makes the energizer bunny look lazy, but she's still just about 7 months now, and calmin down a bit. Getting the energy level right will be the thing, and I hope that it all works out GREAT!!
Congratulations twice! It is actually pretty good timing. By the time your human baby is born your canine baby will be house trained, over the mouthiness and pretty much integrated into your schedule. By the time your human baby is crawling around your puppy will be a " young teenager" - perfect for babies. Stay healthy and enjoy everyday.
