canned pumpkin and diarhea

i heard that canned pumkim is good for diarhea.  do i cook the cnned pumkin or serve it to Waffle (our 17 week old pup) raw?

Just straight out of the can is fine.  Just put a table spoon on top of his food.

Give Waffle 1 to 2 tablespoons of pumpkin right from the can (not pumpkin pie mix...just plain pumpkin).  Take the rest of the pumpkin and fill/spread into ice cube trays.  Freeze.  Then empty the trays (might need to dip underside of tray in hot water) into a ziplock bag.  You now have "Pumpsicles"!  When you need pumpkin again, take one out and microwave it for 15 seconds or so (make sure it isn't too hot)...smash it with a fork and serve.

When we have it... now is the time to stock up...I make it part of tori's meal.  Just 1  - 2 tablespoons mixed in now and then every other day or so.  I feel it really helps her digestion.  I empty the can into a tupperware type container.  Freeze some in her Kong or make pumpkin balls and freeze them for treats.  Just make sure yo do NOT get PIE FILLINGS... Look for PURE pumpkin!

This is a good point Shelly as it has been a very seasonal product around here and with the freeze that wiped out pumpkins one year, I learned my lesson and stock up at least a years worth during the fall months that it;s available. I felt like a hoarder at first, but I am just now on my last 2 cans, as I use it for a topping as well as for soft stools since my two really like it. Good nutrients in it.

I'm just curious how this worked for you. I used to give my pekingese canned pumpkin all  the time to keep his stool soft without having to give him meds. It worked great but I always wonder if it works for the exact opposite problem as well.

Sometimes I mix Sadie's pumpkin with plain, nonfat yogurt and give her a spoonful in her food once a day. She loves it.
