UPD on "Dog attack provoked by owners".

I just wanted to say that the whole story was confirmed yesterday. We met a woman who witnessed the attack and, actually, she was the one who helped to take the pits away.  She said us yesterday that she had even seen the boy to give the command "get him, get him" to pits.  

 

Camus is doing fine. Still going to dog parks but we check first and stay only if there are friends Camus enjoy playing with.

That is ridiculous.  I don't think we need to turn this into a pit debate, but I think the owners sometimes only increase the negative perception of pit bulls. It's like they don't even have a fair chance :(

I agree. We can't blame any breed for the stupidity of the owners. I have fostered many German Shepherds, and for my money, there isn't a better breed out there, but lots of people believe they are vicious and lots of people have been bitten by badly bred, badly trained GSDs. Yet they are also the original Guidedogs for the Blind, and they have saved countless people on SAR missions and countless servicemen in every war, so how can they be inherently mean, dangerous, vicious, etc? It's the people. We need to get tougher on irresponsible and dangerous dog owners.

I agree with you, Karen. It's totally the owners! I had a 120 pound intact male German Shepherd for 12 years and he was the gentlest giant!!! Sometimes people are just the worst!

That is what I was trying to say. I don't blame the dogs, I blame the owners. I wanted to say that crazy people get fight dogs for that exact purpose, to fight.

Yep, and there are people (almost always young men) who deliberately abuse certain breeds, including pits and GSDs, to make them mean. It's horrible.

Poor Camus. I'm so glad he wasn't hurt. Hopefully that incident will not traumatize him around dogs in the future. Poor baby.

That is awful. I don't even know where to start. I'm glad Camus is alright. You have to feel sorry for these poor pitbulls, too. Glad everyone's alright

There were a couple pits at the dog park the other day.  The biggest one looked pretty intimidating, and Lucy and Ethel didn't want anything to do with him.  His owner said he's harmless.  But I got to tell you, that HUGE SPIKED leather collar he had that was clasped with a pad lock, didn't comfort me one bit....I don't care how harmless he is.  He certainly was portraying that.

I'm glad you reported it.  And it's also nice to know that someone was able to confirm your suspicions, although it's horrible to know that there are owners like that out there.  It's owners like that that give pits a bad name.  Every dog deserves a wonderful owner, and these pits clearly don't have that.
