Tess is almost 5 months and we took her in for her second trip to the doggie salon today. Needed to get her toe nails, ears and glands done again. This time I thought I would take them up on the offer to trim around her eyes, so she could see better and we could see her. My DH didn't want them to touch her hair yet, but I thought if I really explained exactly what I wanted, I would get it. I only wanted the area BETWEEN her eyes done. I have been trimming that area so it doesn't poke her eyes and it was ok, but I thought while she was getting the other done they could clean it up, and do a nicer job of it. So why did they shave her all the way from the tip of her nose to the eyes?!?! I even showed them on my face, just this small area between the eyes.....by then Tess was no longer sitting still and I never got the spot done that I had asked for! This makes me really scared for when we get her done all over. I know I'm to take a picture in, but if they speak a whole different language .....So dissapointed! I know that it will grow back, but how could she do this when I never even asked for her to shave her?

I have been trimming that area but she doesn't stay still, so it looked pretty choppy. Since she never used the word shaved and I didn't either, I never expected this when she stopped before the eye area, to show us and ask a question before starting them. Thank god she stopped, because her question was for above the eyes and how far over to go! Between the eyes I thought said it all. Boy was I wrong. Will try the owner next time and if that doesn't work I will deffenitly ask around. Thanks for the advise.

Bev, do you have pictures to post of the new doo?   I guess taking in pictures next time of exactly how you want it, and one of her now that you DON'T want again, might be helpful.

I just posted a pix of Bella and how I like her eyes. will put more on this post and include Murphy. I do mine myself as well as 1. Murphy is a nervous nellie to the point of getting diarrhea the one time I took him, shaking like a leaf when I came to get him. 2. Too many horror stories on here of how groomers just don't "get the doodle look" and their dogs end up looking like poodles or shaved. and 3. It would cost me about $500-600 a year to keep them as coiffed as I like and I can do it myself as I used to be a hair dresser and can handle moving targets pretty well (children's haircuts)

Top one is Murphy, and bottom is Bella.
No, I didn't take any pictures since the shave she got yesterday. Just imagine a flat runway in the middle of her face from nose to eyes!!! Your dogs look great, your doing a really good job on the hair cuts! I just trimmed her between the eyes like I origanally asked for at the doggie salon. Tess sat really still for me and I always use small round tips scissors when working near her eyes. Do you do their whole cut using scissors only? I'm going to try and trim her myself when the time comes, mostly worried about the toe nails. I've never done this on any of our dogs....and hers are all black, so not sure where to trim. I need to watch some videos! :)))
You do have the advantage on all of though having done this for a living.....well people anyway! :)

There is SOOOO much in the Grooming Group and that's really where I learned to do most of it. The advantage I had with being a hairdresser in my last life was the handling of the equipment and what I wanted for this type hair and for comfort for my hand. I have learned that you get what  you pay for with cutting tools and the better the tools the easier the job.

The black nails are tough and I had my vet tech show me how to do it. That's not to say we haven't had a few bloody toenails around here. But it happens and that's how I learned how far to go. They forgave me and still let me cut their nails. I do know that when I am nervous or hesitate with clipping the nails, they pick up on it and want to pull away, so I stay really calm and talk to them the whole time.

As for the coats, I do mostly clippers, I have a Professional 2 speed Andis with several size blades. It was about $140.00 I think, 2 yrs ago. The blades are about $20-25 ea. and I have 5 now. It comes with one. Other than that I have several scissors but one that was on the high end of expensive and I will use that for cutting allover if I decide to scissor cut one of them. More tedious, but gives a really nice look when I want it to stay a little longer.

It takes practice, but I have to say I have never heard an owner complain as much about the job they did compared to the butchering some groomers have done.

Thanks for all the help on grooming. I had joined the grooming group and I read quite a bit, but it gets a little overwhelming. But your last comment really makes since, we all know what we want our doodles to look like, so there won't be any misunderstandings when you do it yourself. :)

So sorry this happened. Same thing with Chloe-trim this this and this and LEAVE the rest! I cried when we got her back and I thought a trim would be with scissors not razors! It does take awhile to grow back how you loved it-Chloe was given a poodle face.

I'm so sorry!!!! Ours started clipping toes and cleaning ears, and then a few minutes later asked if this was what I was looking for ?!?! I had even pointed to my own face and said just between the eyes. I thought the same thing about the scissors, but when I heard the trimmer going I thought there has to be different sizes....like the one I trim my husband with, long to short. Are you doing the hair cuts now or did you find someone else?

Oh dear!  I am sorry this happened to Tess.  What could they have been thinking!!  My doodles have never been to a groomer...I read some of the horror stories on DK and decided to learn how to groom them.  The curly coats are very forgiving.  Tess is so adorable that even with a stripe down her muzzle I bet she is still cute.  Soon it will be grown out. Hang in there.
Thanks! It was such a shock at first, and then today I cleaned up between her eyes and that helped blend it a bit.  My husband said never again, so I guess I will be learning how to do this. :)))
This is what  most groomers do when you tell them to clean in between the eyes unless you tell them not to shave it. Maybe the groomer thought you would like it. Still shame on those groomers for not listening.
