The trapper is pointing to "our" gator - yes they got him!!!!!!  Sad to say he is going to be killed but all the parts are sold and used for something - nothing goes to waste.  The money is put into a fund to provide education and other gator type programs.  He was 6 ft 9 in.  Na na na naaaaa, hey hey hey good bye!!!!  They had a busy day - he was #3.

Wow, what a relief!!  Thanks goodness he is gone.  I would still go forward with seeing about fencing though.  After seeing how big he is, I am even more scared for you guys.  Hopefully it will be awhile before your next encounter.
That is great news!!  But I do have to say, I am sad he can't be released anywhere instead of being killed. But I am weird - I even asked that my DH take a grasshopper out of our bathtub and release it outside instead of killing it the other day!
This sounds like something I would do. We had a bee in the house the other day and I screamed at DH not to swat it, and just "waft it outside". Not as easy as it sounds!!

I agree that it is sad that they can't be released - but that is because of human stupidity. I hope the humans who were feeding them know that they condemned them to death. It happens in the west all to frequently with bears. People think they are "cute" feed them, an unfortunate encounter happens, and they shoot the bear not the person who fed it and acclimated it to people.

Glad to hear you can let the babies out without having a heart attack now!!! It's sad that they have to kill them though...isn't there a wild area where they can release them??
Great news, so glad that you will all be safe. I really couldn't picture you in one of those orange jumpsuits!
I think you should get a purse made out of him.  Or at least some gator bully sticks.
Who knew! But gator sticks are very greasy! I actually go to the pet store and get Echo one almost every week! They even have Buffalo and Elk too.
Oh man, what a relief! I kinda feel sorry for the gators in a way, much like I feel bad for the coyotes on this end of the US that have to be killed when they move into town and start taking pets, but glad they got him before he could nom on you guys! (Also glad I'm not looking for the "donate to spring Jane from jail" button right now! *grin*)
I was very sad when I learned he was going to be killed but the trappers explained to me that they are a "renewable" source - like a cow or pig.  They will be eaten, skins taken, etc.  There will be more gators behind our house but up until now they have kept off-shore and are afraid of humans - this one was not - a big difference.  It is a county ordiance that keeps me from having a fence - we don't have enough set back from the water's edge.  I'm hoping we dont' have this problem again but if we do - Calamity Jane will be packin the Ruger.  I'm taking a Women's Gun Safety class on 10/27 and then will get free gun range time for a month - I'm going to keep my skills up - just in case!  AND in FL it is pretty easy to get your Concealed Weapons Permit - so I might just do that as well.
I'm humming "Pistol Packin' Mama" right now!!!

I don't blame you.  If I had a gator come near my little girl, that gator would be a handbag in no time.
