Oh my goodness!! The last few weeks Tucker has been digging holes to China in the back yard. Not only does he use his front paws but he gets his back paws into the action also. Does your doodle do this? Have you tried to deter them from doing it and if so with what result?

Also on nice days we leave our back door open when we are home so Tucker can go in and out at his leisure....if you arent watching him closely and turn your back you may be missing a pillow off your bed or even his whole doggie bed....he drags everything out to the back yard...it is actually funny to watch him in action because he knows he is not supposed to and he takes off like a bat outta heck with his newly found treasure to take to HIS backyard.

I have been around lots of dogs over the years but I must say that I have never come across a breed like the doodle that can make you actually belly laugh at theri antics.

He's lucky he's cute:):)

His back paws? That's some serious digging. The poop-in-the-hole trick worked for me with Sadie and she never digs in the yard anymore, but she's also allowed to dig at the dog park so she has an outlet for her digging desires.

I love the image of Tucker dragging the bedding out to the yard!

I will have to keep my camera close to try and capture a picture of his theiving ways....it really is funny:)

Honest to God....all four paws....it is amazing to watch....he use to do it at the beach and we didnt think to much of it as sand was so easy to dig through....but his favorite hole is by my chiminey in a patch of the garden that has nice red PEI dirt....so he comes in with red dirt up to the elboes on 4 legs. I will try the poop in the hole thing and pray to God that he cares that it is poop in there and doesnt actually just dig anyway regardless of the poop....then I will have one messy doodle to clean....lol.

Lily thinks it is funny and gets a wild case of the zoomies if I catch her in the act of digging.  She really loves it after a nice hard rain fills up her holes and then she has mud soup to play with!  We think she might be half piglet since she loves to wallow in the mud. We nicknamed her piglet.

Zach has one hole in the dog run. I cover it - he digs it up again. He doesn't dig in the back yard anymore ( a little bit during the first couple of weeks) so I am fine with his hole in the run. That is the dogs space  and as long as he doesn't decide to dig his way out....

OMD....my two are digging like wild dogs. We have chipmunks and they go after them. The funny thing here is Fudge starts the hole and the digging and then lets Vern (the muscle) finish digging. I think she likes to set him up :) That is really funny about Tucker taking his stuff out to the yard.
Digging not so bad, but I caught Buddy trying to get out the doggie door with my bed pillow a couple of times.  They truly are lucky they are cute, and we do laugh our butts off at them :)

I tried the poop in the hole trick with Bailey and she would just find another "non-poopie" place to dig.

So I got a empty coke can and put pennies in it.  I sat outside with her and waited.  When she started digging I would casually walk next to her and shake the can...Scared the fur right off her back.  I only had to do this twice and she doesn't dig anywhere any more...and that was about a month ago...

Good luck with your puppy-pot-hole-digger LOL

This was much bigger last night before Clark refilled it in part:

and from another angle:

Boca does this with her rubber ball.

Kona NEVER digs. Owen is a professional. Poop in the holes is just making him move to new places to dig more. He is also a kleptomaniac... He isn't as likely to take things from the house outside as he brings things that belong outside in.

Looks like lots of doodles love their digging and are very skillful in doing so.....also glad to see that I am not the only one that owns a klepto....lmao:)

Ok....so no poop in the holes....I already have 3 craters to fill in and I dont need him finding new spots....maybe this weekend should involve some pennies in a can training to deter from digging. It is worth a shot:)

Bella started digging when she first came and we KNEW the poop trick wasn;t gonna work with her as that would be like finding a treat and she'd eat it.

We kept filling the hole with small rocks. She didn;t like pawing at those so much and it gave us time to catch her and train her not to dig anymore. She learns very quickly, so it was only a matter of staying around long enough to catch her a few times and it's stopped.

As for taking treasures outside, YES, she has a favorite spot under a big tree and she hides her prizes under there and goes to her stash several times a day and just lays there and peeks out at us from under the tree. She watches for Murphy to come by and then pounces on him as though Murphy doesn;t know she's there. He just looks at her and keeps walking or shrugs her off. SO Funny!!!

Luna went through a digging phase when she was about that age, but with consistent interruption and a little maturity she has basically stopped.   Every time he digs, call him away from the hole and give a BIG high value treat and LOTS of praise.  Luna still digs occasionally, but she used to do it EVERY time she went outside.  Now it's only once in a blue moon!
