Does anyone watch Dragons Den? (its like shark tank but the Canadian version).  They had a new episode last night and the 1st entrepreneur wanted 150,000 for their company "Match Maker pet".... The jist of the business is for people to take their ordinary house pets, make them a profile, and find them a mate. As she put it, "I took my chihuahua to the vet and he said we can either spay her, or breed her, I chose to breed her". Ugh.

Most of the Dragons went out pretty quickly, but Arlene Dickenson (who I normally really like). Gave her her marketing services instead of money for 50% of the company.  I generally have a lot of respect for Arlene, since she is a female, and she usually invests in responsible products, but this company and the fact that she endorsed it kinda made me mad.

All I can see coming from this is a Kijiji, Craigs list gone wrong. It will be backyard breeder central.  Apparently in the first week or whatever 84 people signed up already.  I think responsible breeders would be going to responsible breeders to mate.  This company could be a good idea for those that have the dogs health tested, but lets be real, this is targeting the average joe who wants to make a quick buck. As soon as the show aired I asked to DH who I could wrtie an email to, to make a stink about it! lol

What your  thoughts?

Oh brother!! This does sound like a REALLY bad idea!! Yes, write/email/phone and make a HUGE stink about it!!!
wE SAW it too!! We did not like it at all! We were also very upset Arlene joined them. Even one of the other dragons said he had bred dogs and said that people would go to breeders, not this. Not one mention was made about having registered breeds or breeders groups included. I hope when Arlene looks into this she realizes this is not a pet friendly site at all! I could see it working with the Canadian kennel club and the breeders clubs included as there arent any online contacts for breeders but even then it would be pretty reckless with out a lot of vigilance.
This sounds like a very stupid idea. I have never seen the show, but I already don't like it much :)  Certainly, there is someone you could write to or call. Good luck!!
I have been successful writing to CEOs but I doubt the CEO f Match Maker Pet would be interested in being helpful to people wanting to put his company out of business. Maybe the folks who produce this Dragon's Den would respond.
