Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ok, so Cooper is almost a year and a half old and we've been thinking about getting a second doodle as a companion and playmate.  I would love to rescue one and I have been a DRC member for a few months now so I am fairly familiar with how they work and have heard (read) nothing but good things about the rescue and all of the happy endings.  The IDOG website is not as detailed as the DRC website  and I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with IDOG that they would be willing to share-good, bad or otherwise.  Thanks in advance for any information you can give.  Jen

Rescue is rescue--opening your home, heart, time, and wallet (10 million things to add in this sentence) to dogs in need. Many times severe need.  There are personal feelings and personality conflicts in all organizations but almost any organization or human that is working for the welfare of animals certainly weighs on the side of good.

I have no information or opinion so I just want to say best wishes on your adoption.  So many in need. Too  many.

Thank you all who give and help.

I got Stuart because of IDOG!!!!  It was great - I signed up for their Cupid Service - which notifies you when there is a "match' for you.  Even though Stuart (and his entire litter) was placed in a Golden Retriver Rescue in Atlanta - IDOG sent me his photo and info.  They were so interested in helping me find a doodle to rescue - and even followed up to see if I did adopt Stuart.  Great organization!!!
I think both IDOG and DRC are good rescues and DK donates to both annually.  IDOG has been around longer and has a very good track record and has an active group of doodle owner support.  Their representatives and biggest supporters just happen to hang out on a different doodle forum (one that has been around since before I knew about doodles).  The reason their site seems less comprehensive is simply because DRC's site is a social network as well as an information site so it's going to be more 'full' of info.  They don't operate a social network around their rescue and their site is about as informative as any rescue site.

Roberta,

On DK's front page are dogs in need.  Go to the front page, center column, at the bottom.  Both DRC and IDog list dogs.  If you click on a dog's information you can also find the website to both organizations.

Some of us no longer see the image of the dogs from DRC or IDOG, just the header. Apparently we aren't going to either since no one knows why. So please use the links provided by others to visit their sites if you don't see them in the middle bottom of the main page.

Here is the link to the DRC website:

Oodles of Doodles, Inc. Rescue operates out of http://doodlerescuecollective.com. IDOG's dogs are also featured in our listings.
In addition to the doodle rescue organizations, tell your  friends to check Petfinder (putting in all the zip codes within driving distance) and  local humane societies and get onto the websites for all the shelters within their driving distance (and there are tons). Check these places daily. The DRC and IDOG can only find so many dogs and those shelters that are no kill (like Riverside's Mary Roberts Pet Adoption Center) don't always use Petfinder.  Our rescue, Clancy, had been rescued from a county kill shelter by Mary Roberts Center and was NOT on any lists other than their local website.  We met him at a fundraiser when he was being walked around by a volunteer.

DRC can be found at www.doodlerescue.org ....

Please be sure you are reaching the real organization, the original and only Doodle Rescue Collective Inc.

I don't know IDOG at all so can't say anything about them. However, I happen to like DRC a lot ( i.e. the one Karen referred to http://doodlerescuecollectiveinc.org/). I signed up to volunteer and had intended to one day adopt a second doodle through them. But before I began any volunteering I found a dog that needed a home. I reached out to DRC for advice. With the help of a very kind DRC director, I was able to successfully rescue Winston and bring him into my home. The rest is history. So, while I don't have any experience adopting directly from their program, but I can say with 100% certainty that they have very high professional standards for their rescue and adoption program. They are kind people who love doodles, and will go to the ends of the earth to help a doodle and to help someone looking to rescue/adopt a doodle.

I also like the social networking aspect of the site. You can track the progress of doodles in their program as people post happy tails and blogs about the dogs. The website is very similar to the DK format so it is easy to navigate, and a lot of the members are the same.

That's my two cents. Good Luck with your doodle search!

Very recently when I had run across a doodle at our local pound/kill shelter I had great experiences with Oodles of Doodles Rescue and IDog - the opposite side of what you are looking at but both were very responsive and helpful. I would say because of that the adoption side would most likely be the same.
I know that Oodles of Doodles does post a ton on Facebook so it's very easy way to follow if you are a Facebook member. Good Luck!
