Too many teeth!!!

Zach has his upper baby incisors and has adult incisors - side by side. How long do I wait for the baby teeth to fall out? He has lost his lower baby teeth and a few molars, so I know that he can shed his baby teeth, it is just the 4 in the front. Thoughts??

Usually if you just wait a bit, they come out naturally.

Tara had doubles for a while too but they eventually came out on their own.  I do think there are times when the do not come out on their own and push the adult teeth into misalignment. If they are still there when all the other babies have fallen out I could have the vet check them. They may need to be pulled. :(

Thanks Nancy and Ricki - he will be going in for the big snip in about a 3-4 weeks - so the vet can evaluate those teeth then if they are still there. I just wasn't sure if I needed to bring him in before then.

This happened to our other dog Daisy. She had one left over and the vet pulled it when they spayed her. She was four years old though because she was a shelter dog and hadn't been spayed yet.

We had doubles and it seemed like forever.  We gave him a good chew and it eventually corrected itself.  It really is awful to think that during the dreaded " I want to bite you all over" stage, that they have more teeth than they need!  Good grief!

I don't know when or how it happened, but I'm positive the puppy teeth finally leave without any help.  Our vet told us if they were still there when it was time to be neutered he would correct the problem while he was under.

The same thing has happened to a few of our dogs.  Some came out eventually on their own and some we had to have pulled when they were in for their spay/neuter surgery.  As long as the baby teeth don't seem to be bothering Zach, then I'd just wait and ask about them (if they are still there) when you take him for his surgery.

My daughter's puppy just went through this.  The vet pulled out the baby teeth while she was being spayed.  I have been told that this is a normal thing to do.  My friend's puppy was an early spay and when her baby teeth didn't come out on their own, they had to have her put to sleep and take them out when she was about a year old.  Zach is adorable!  Good luck with the neutering and the teeth!

They will probably be fine to leave them go, they will do what they need to, some take longer. Chloe had this issue.

Thanks everyone - it sounds like lots of pups have experienced this. I'll talk to the vet when Zach gets neutered in a few weeks.
