Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We have the opportunity to take in a 5 mo old goldendoodle. We have a 15 mo. gd boy. We are trying to get a feel for what it would be like with 2 dogs. Those of you who have 2 what do you love about it? What are some of the challenges? Why did you decide to get another?
Thanks so much for your input! This is always the first place I come to when looking for info and support :)
UPDATE:
We decided that we are not the best family for this little gal. I appreciate all the input and honesty. Not everyone in our family was in favor of having 2 dogs at this season of life and we all need to be committed to her. So, I am hoping to help the family find a great family that will be her forever home.
I so appreciate the honest feedback. It helped us make an informed decision and not get caught up in how cute she is!
Thanks again, Doodle Kisses Community!
You all ROCK :)

I should start by saying that I love my two boys, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. However, our second Dood (Murphy) has actually been a HUGE amount of work, and I don't know how I would have ever been able to handle it if I was working. He had some health issues the first year...lots of Vet visits, worry, and money. He has also been a major training challenge....we are still training daily after a year and I don't see this changing anytime soon. He has been a tough dog in many ways....but we love him to death. So, you might end up with an "easy" dog, and then I don't see it as a big deal, but I now know that not all Doodles are "easy". Good luck with your decision.
The challenge is when they are non stop playing hard and you have to referee, vet bills are double, ours eat the same food so that is good. Other than that we got the second one because we hated leaving Chloe by herself all day so we got her a 'buddy" although the buddy became the dominant one the second she came in the house and Chloe became a different snuggly dog. Just beware that they all have different personalities and don't expect a clone like I did. But that's what makes life interesting around here. We wouln't change what we did at all. Good luck to you! Keep us posted.
It is not as easy to travel with two. Everything is twice as expensive--food, annual vet bills, any kind of pet sitting. And, it is so much fun watching them play and romp and wrestle. Leaving them together when I go out somewhere is much more comfortable for me. There is twice as much dirt, and twice as many leaves/sticks on the floor. And twice as many doodle kisses in the house. I love having two.
You made the right decision for your family - not easy when she is so cute but it is wonderful that you are helping the family to find a forever home for her. If they don't feel like they can take the time to screen potential adopters perhaps you cann suggest they contact a doodle rescue like Doodle Rescue Collective or IDOG. (I'm a foster with Doodle Rescue Collective and I can tell you we would definitely make sure she went to the right home - knowledgeable about the requirements of doodles.)
I have 2 doodles that are 7 months apart one is a heavy weight and one is a mini, they keep each other busy and lets face it only a doodle can keep up with a doodle LOL they play non stop. I also have a doodle"NOT" he is 15 and the doodles keep him young. Good luck on whateve you decide
