Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have two doodles and when it comes to cuddling, they couldn't be any different. Sophie Bear is not a cuddler. She bounds up on the couch or the bed at night at her own discretion, and curls up at the end by my feet. She only tolerates my attempts to cuddle her, and usually squirms away after only a few seconds. If she could speak she would roll her eyes and say "mommmm, you're smothering me!"
Winston on the other hand, doesn't go on the couch and he will wait for permission to come up on the bed, looking at me with his adorable pooh-bear face. When I say ok, he jumps up and curls up right against me, head on the pillow and let me wrap my arms around him while we fall asleep together. He eventually gets hot and goes down to his own bed but we always get in a good snuggle and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Does anyone else out there cuddle with their doodles? What is your doodles favourite way to cuddle?

Halas is a great snuggler. As soon as it's time for bed, he jumps on the bed and stays near the foot of the bed. When I get in bed, he'll come up by my pillow and lay by me for a little bit, but then he'll move to another spot to fall asleep. Our big cuddledood time is in the morning. I hit the snooze button a lot. When the first alarm goes off, or a few minutes before that, Halas will come up near my back, and flop down right against my back. After another snooze, I'll roll over for some snuggles. He'll eventually roll over to get his belly rubbed. He'll slowly adjust and roll until he's taken over my entire pillow, but I don't mind. Doodle snuggles are a great way to start the day!
awe that's really sweet. What a great snugglebug!
It seems that Bexter always wants to cuddle mostly in the morning right before I have to get up (unfortunately). This is the biggest reason I wanted a dog in the first place - to cuddle! Bexter usually gets too hot to stay in one spot on my bed for long, but in the mornings he will stay put against me for a while. I also have to hit the snooze to get more cuddle time!
I thought having a dog would make me get out of bed sooner. But, instead, I just want to snuggle longer.
my doods don't cuddle in the morning...only sometimes on week-ends after our morning walk and breakfast if we go back to bed. I wish I could just let the doodles nudge me awake instead of the stinkin alarm clock, but if I left it to them I'd never get to work on time.
that sounds like a nice routine :) I love the way they need to be touching you all the time. My kitty gets in on the action too. I can always count on her to snuggle up in the night and often wake up and find her curled up somewhere on my body, usually the small of my back since I sleep on my stomach a lot. it's a nice feeling.
My Gracie Doodle is just like your Winston. She is a very big and long girl so we are great at cuddling spoon style! She too gets hot and then goes down to the foot of the bed and later she is up against my legs so I can't move!!! I would never ever think of asking her to move either!
Nancie - I love your last comment. I hate it when I have to ask one of mine to move, Stuart is usually the one because he is so big and likes to lay with his head on my ankles or legs - I try not move but eventually I can't stand feeling pinned down. LOL
Rooney is always the first to bound up on the bed at night - Stuart just doesn't move as fast. They start out down by my feet but move around as the night goes on. Last night I woke up to find all 54 lbs of Stuart with his head on my pillow laying right in between dh and I like a child would. Rooney is a night time cuddler for a little while but is a morning kisser, Stuart is the morning snuggle bug. I wake up and sing my song "good morning to my puppies, good morning to my doodles, good morning, good morning to you and you". Silly and I can't sing, don't know how is even started (drives dh nuts) but it signals time to wake up and snuggle. Rooney jumps on me with doodle kisses and Stuart crawls over and lays on me with his head on my shoulder while I rub his tummy. Stuart actually puts his arms around me for hugs. Too cute.
Daisy is not a cuddler, I have to steal my cuddles and kisses. She also does not do furniture, she could if she wanted but she doesn't, she prefers the floor.
She does come and put her head down on the bed in the AM to say hi, that is about it.
I very much miss a cuddly dog but I love her for so many other reasons.
Awwwww Winston sounds like the sweetest doodle ever!!!!! Lola's selective with her cuddling time/position. Sometimes she'll lay right on me on the couch and sleep there, and other times she'll give me a nice big swat across the face--her way of saying "no, thank you".
I just this morning took the pic below. Butz comes with us to the bedroom every night. He jumps on the bed between our legs and at some point moves to his own dog bed. Sometime during the night, when he needs some warmth he comes into bed again and pushes himself onto my pillow. Usually his head is next to my head and I am holding one of his paws. This started when he was a pup and it still happens nearly every night. Btw, when he is freshly groomed he sleeps and cuddles in bed more often.
His mother, our Bernese Mountaindog, sleeps on "her" couch in my office and only joins us in the morning and then she loves spoon or back to back. And yes, we all love the snooze as well ;-).
