Well it's that time of year to be picking out a tree and start the decorating process. However this time last year, Bella was 5 months old and in an ex-pen and DH was home all day to supervise when she wasn't. So being as she is 60 pds and will climb, hop or knock down any barrier to get to her desired treasure, what solutions have those of you with Bella type dogs done to protect your tree? We always get a real one, and one that stands at least 9-10 feet tall, so there's also the fear of it falling on her too.

The area is too big to pen, and open to other rooms in the house. Maybe a gallon of Bitter Lemon???

This is soooo adorable. And so timely. Thank you.

I have been wondering about a tree also, as my Chloe is 4 months and into everything..

We have a pool table in the front liv room, so I am thinking about putting the tree on top of it! I think that just might work! = )

We fastened our tree to the wall one year also. Not because of the dogs, but because it was side-heavy and 12 feet tall. Same way previously posted. It worked really well.

Otherwise, could you rearrange the furniture a bit? Put it between two couches in the corner or something? Enough to enjoy it, but the dog can't get it.

Sounds good Melanie. But have you seen my Bella? There isn't a couch big or high enough to keep her away. She'd just use them as a spring board to hop up higher onto the tree. Makes me chuckle to think of her hopping up higher? Tying the tree is probably a must though.

I haven't stopped laughing about this. Oh, no matter what you choose, maybe you should have the video camera nearby!!

I have also been worrying about putting our tree up this year. I see that Walmart has a XT play yard.  They actually show a pic of it around a Christmas tree. I hate spending the money but think it may be the answer. I am really thinking about ordering it site to store. If I do I will let you know what I think.

How much is it?
So it looks like I need to train her to leave it, put the balls and lights up high, tie the tree to the wall, baracade with boxes, try to put it up on a table or pool table, baracade the doorways somehow and supervise her constantly. Gosh, it wasn't this complicated with toddlers running around! Worth it to keep her safe and celebrate our favorite time of the year. It's also Murphy's 3 rd birthday the 18 th, so lots of celebrating here in Dec.

Melanie, I kept turning my iphone around and around trying to make sense of this till it dawned on me what it was! Very clever idea. WOuld like to see how I'd keep the gifts under the tree, but otherwise, this could work. Thanks. lol

Darwin mostly left our big tree alone, but he would randomly sneak things off of it so we got a small tree that we keep on a table. We can still put presents around it, but he won't get at it. :-)

Sue, it's $48.73 shipped to my house.  I am just now ordering it.
