Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Has anyone else out there encountered people who dislike poodle mixed breeds? When I was at work I was talking about dogs with a customer and I told her that I have a goldendoodle, her response was "I'm sorry" shortly followed by, "why would you get one of those" I was friendly and explained about my allergy condition among the other reasons for picking a doodle. I told her that Jessie is a wonderful dog, But I still feel sad that there are people like this out there.

In response to people like this, I designed this shirt.

LOVE THIS! GOOD For you!

We have gotten funny looks and comments too! We had a trainer that didn't like our dogs! She had great danes and such.

We just have to say that they do not know what they are missing!!!!

That's true they don't know what they're missing. I don't feel like I should have to justify my choice of dog breed to a stranger, but I hope my response made her understand why doodles are such good dogs!

Sounds like a b-word to me! Parker gets nothing but compliments! Everyone loves him and calls him beautiful! That lady doesn't know what she's talking about!

I've been pretty lucky when out with Gus and Lilly. They're really well behaved when we're in stores that let them in I think it might those that want to say something quiet.

I have several stories where people I didn't even know made a point to criticize my choice of breed--it is weird that they get so defensive--as if we are somehow a THREAT to them! My favorite--travelling with my puppy Rio on a ferry, several people asked me what Rio was. When i said a Labradoodle, the man in front of me on line to pay our fare said, loudly and rudely, "A mutt". He never looked at me or said anything else---it was weird. But the people who have enjoyed meeting our dogs greatly outnumber the naysayers.

I usually have nice reactions from people when they meet my dogs so I don't have a lot of advice other than I feel people like that just don't know what they just don't know when it comes to how awesome doodles are. It sucks to be them.

We only got compliments so far. Wherever we go with Monty, he brings in crowds of people. It also helps that he is well behaved. It's sometimes funny to see the look at people's faces when I answer their question about what type of dog he is. There are still some people who never heard of a goldendoodle. "What? A golden noodle?" And yes, they often think Monty is a wheaten... or a poodle. I feel like I need to make a shirt for myself that reads: This is Monty and he is a Golden-Doodle. But I do like talking to strangers about Monty.

I keep hearing about these anti-doodle people but I am fortunate that I have never encountered one personally. I get many compliments about Sadie when we are walking or at the park--people have stopped their cars on the street to ask about her and tell me how beautiful she is. Because of her coloring they often guess goldendoodle instead of labradoodle, but I've never had to deal with any negativity. I think if anyone asked "why I would get one of those" I would just show them her picture. She's too cute--how could I NOT get one?

Only once did we have someone blatantly comment. It was the owner of a very unruly standard poodle at my younger daughters soccer game. We had Hunter at the game to and she was her typical, happy, quiet self there. All the while this poodle is jumping and barking. We were on our way out and they were walking by us and the poodle was pulling and jumping all over. My older daughter Ava says to the poodle lady "your dog is pretty, our dog is half poodle she is a goldendoodle" to which the lady says "so it's just a mutt then" my very quick whtted daughter says "at least my mutt is better behaved than your poodle". Lol lol the lady stomped off :-). Closed minded people are everywhere, it's their best defense for being uneducated is my theory. They don't know about the wonderful aspects of doodles therefore there are none to them. It's their loss :-)
