I am pretty worried right now. Cooper had a seizure today at Daycare. They called me and asked me if they could take them next door to their Vet and of course I said Yes. When I got there, he looked fine, but after the Vet talked to me and told me how long it lasted, I decided to let her go ahead with some blood work and a few xrays of his abdomen to be sure he didn't ingest anything.
His cbc came back normal, but his liver enzymes were abnormal and billirubin in particular. Then his abdominal xray also showed an irregularity in the liver area. She said this may point to him being born with a "liver shunt". She took more blood and wanted me to bring him home to eat and then bring him back in two hours. Also said she would give me something to cover him over the weekend in case he has more seizures. Poor baby.
I am trying not to worry about a diagnosis before we actually get one, but I am hoping it is not this liver problem. It is a genetic flaw that they can be born with.

I'm so sorry Cooper is having this issue. I hope the tests don't show anything serious. It's a good idea to try not to worry until you get a diagnosis. Sending positive thoughts for Cooper and for you.
Thanks Karen, I appreciate the positive thoughts. I am sending positive thoughts your way too for you and Jack.
I will keep you in my thoughts. My french bulldog Bruno has epilepsy and his seizures are well managed. You are doing the right things and looking for the cause - than you can determine what to do next in regards to treatment.
Hugs, hugs hugs, I hope this turns out to be something minor. I am thinking of you.
I'm sure you're worried. I'm so sorry to hear this....too many sick Doodles here on DK. I'm sending lots and lots of positive thoughts your way. Please keep us posted.
how awful. Hope hes ok
Oh my goodness. I know how scary this is. I'm so sorry for you and Cooper. I hope you get a postive diagnosis and whatever this is it is easily treatable. I agree about not worrying. I have been driving myself nuts on the internet researching Winston's condition. Stay strong for cooper.
Sherri, just got caught up on Winston. How scary. I am so glad that you got him to a place that narrowed down the diagnosis. That other Vet's office should be ashamed.
I am hoping this all turns out to be nothing too significant but the chmistires do need to be looked into.
So sorry to hear about Cooper! Prayers and fingers and paws crossed that this is something easily remedied! Please keep us posted!
Thank you to everyone for your concern. I just knew I could come here for support. We went back for the last draw of bloodwork to see how his liver is digesting food after two hours and now it is wait until Monday to see how this test comes back. She gave him a prescription for Valium for me to use, just in case we see another seizure and instructions to call if we see anything else. This is a completely new Vet for him too. I have been thinking about switching to this group because it is literally across the parking lot from where he goes for daycare, kennel and grooming and my old Vet retired. I was hesitant because the office girls where I used to go are like old friends, but I made some new ones today and this female Vet was wonderful. They took his xrays without sedation just by gently holding him and have a lab in office for routine bloodwork, which my old Vet didn't do, so I had answers a lot faster. One of the guys from Daycare stayed with me during most of the visit at the Vet and I thought that was very nice too. He was so concerned about Cooper, who he calls his little buddy.
