Lucy just ate her way through a small rubbermaid container with chocolate covered nuts. She probably ate about 10 pecans covered with white/dark chocolate. I've know chocolate can be fatal for dogs but I'm not sure how much she would need to eat. Any thoughts?

I just found the below that Karen & Jack posted in an earlier post (I hope that's ok with her?)
CHOCOLATE
This is one toxin that is not as deadly as many dog owners think. That said, it's not a good idea to feed your hound Hershey Kisses or Oreos: chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which at certain doses can cause tremors, heart arrhythmias, and seizures. Because of its high fat content, chocolate also can trigger a painful bout of pancreatitis.
The level of theobromine and caffeine in unsweetened baking chocolate is ten times higher than that in milk chocolate, which makes unsweetened chocolate the most dangerous. (Semisweet chocolate contains approximately half the theobromine and caffeine of unsweetened chocolate, making it intermediate in toxicity.)
The toxic dose of unsweetened chocolate is about 3 ounces (three squares) for a 20-pound dog, about 6 ounces for a 40-pound dog, and about 9 ounces for a 60-pound dog. In practical terms, this means that if your 80-pound Lab eats half a chocolate cake, he is less likely to have heart arrhythmias and seizures than he is to vomit and have diarrhea. Call your vet if your dog eats chocolate to discuss whether treatment or monitoring in the hospital are warranted.
Thanks for your response. I called her vet and was told that we should just monitor her because she didn't eat that much. It still scares me though. We are leaving for a vacation tomorrow and now I'm going to worry nonstop about her. It's just like leaving your baby for the first time :)

I doubt that much will affect her. We do have info. on the amount of chocolate that is usually a problem in the Danger Group.

my inlaws dog (60lbs) ate a muffin with dark choc chips and was fine. I think with the small amount just monitor her and hope she doesnt get a poorly tummy
I hope Lucy is going to be fine. We have had no bad reaction from one of our dogs getting into a small amount of chocolate. Try to enjoy your trip.
My parents' 15 pound dog once ate an entire box of assorted chocolates. She was crazy hyper for a bit and had a bit of diarrhea, but was otherwise fine. Throughout her 18 year long life, she got into chocolates on occasion (she was a bit of a ninja for getting on top of tables etc.) and never had more than a small digestive reaction.
Just monitor and watch out for anything beyond minor digestive upset and Lucy should be fine :)
Oh Lucy-not a good snack choice! I hope you are feeling ok!!
How's Lucy? Any update?
