Can you tell me about the breed?

I know two Havanese--one is a fantastic dog in every way--the other pees and poops in the house --she just sneaks off and goes without warning--and growls at any person or dog who comes near her owners. They love her to death but put up with a lot of hassle--however, they are not dog-savvy people and this could just be a training issue. By the way, it is a Cuban breed and they purposely bred the dogs to have longer back legs so that their rump and tail are higher and they kind of look like a tractor--you know what I mean?

tractor...that's funny...but true!!

Thanks

Definitely DON"T want the second one!!!

Are you thinking of getting one?

I was looking for a smaller second dog and exploring different options

If you get the right breeder, you really can't go wrong with a miniature poodle. That was my last dog, and will be my next.

My friend has a Havanese and loves him to death. He is a good dog,

Another option you have is a toy golden doodle, I have Jack he is a toy,, He weighs 14 pounds, He is not yappy, he is adorable, sweet and very loving.

I will say he for sure had the potential to get small dog syndrome but I worked very hard with him and he is just the absolute love of my life

Also, in defense of a small dog, they for sure have a greater chance of being more yappy, more possessive and more yappy but that is not their fault, The owner needs to be aware of what their actions are saying to the dog, Small dogs in general can get away with things that a big dog can't such as jumping up on a lap unannounced, jumping on people without being corrected because they only weigh a little bit you hardly notice.

The best advice that was ever given to me about Jack is if you would not let a 100 pound pit bull do it, don't let Jack do it. I will admit, Jack gets away with more then what a 100 pound pit bull would. The idea is if you train your dog properly and you get your dog from a reputable breeder that is not inbreeding, not over breeding and is using good judgment, there is no reason in the world you can not have a small sweet well behaved dog of any breed.

Big dogs in general are more laid back because they don't get away with as much as a small dog so they usually behave better but not always. Depends on teh owner.

agree!

I have been around 2 Havanese.  Both were males and good dogs. IMHO, they resemble large Shih Tzus or Lhasa Apso.

As a previous Shih Tzu owner, one of the advantages of the Havanese is the longer nose. They don't have the nasal (snorting) issues of the flat faced dogs. Good luck.

All I know is that they are really cute!

They really are cute. They also don't have that pushed in face and underbite like some of the other long-haired toy breeds.
