Maggie's nose is really dry.  A little piece of the black nose (on top) has rubbed off even.  I am putting vasoline on it.  Any suggestions or experience with that?

Her official diagnosis was hyper-keratosis. But that's a pretty general diagnosis.

He seems very healthy, so I'm not too worried.

It's odd that it's only on one half of the nose.

Ann-How do they test for this lupus?

I'm not sure. The DL was diagnosed after he went to his new home. I could ask them and llet you know.

Here is a picture of Maggie's little dry rubbed off spot.  Sorry if the picture is crooked.  I stink at this!  It does look like Kramer's only much smaller (so far...).  Did Kramer's start out this way? Isn't she adorable by the way?

I don't think it's the same. I think Maggie probably just has snow nose. (loss of pigmentation in the winter).

She's very adorable!!

Ours both have this coloring right now I don't think it's uncommon from what I hear.

Traci, Monty had this very same peeled nose a couple of months ago. I noticed that the black skin suddenly started to flake out on the very same spot as Maggie's. Of course I freaked out and called the vet. The vet technician assured me that it's not a big deal. She said dogs sometime scrape their noses a bit, plus the dry weather and cold outside. So I calmed down. The nose skin grew back in no time. I would just keep an eye on that and if it gets worse or does not start improving, call the vet to see if it can be anything else. Maggie sure is a cutie!

My two go between wet, cold noses to dry, hot noses several times a day. I have no idea why, and I had heard the old wives tale too. I dismissed it when I figured out they are just fine either way. It does seem to me that their noses are always the wettest when they are giving us kisses and the nose is part of the deal. Maybe someone will know more about why it's different at different times and with each dog.

Peri's nose is always pretty dry.  Taquito's is always wet - vet says there is nothing to worry about.  But she has not had anything "rub off" - I still wouldn't worry too much.

I am reading about this discoid lupus and hyper-keratosis right now & kind of freaking out.  It would be great if anybody has any experience with either of these to tell me how they test for it.  I really need to discuss this with Maggie's breeder, which I will.  It may be nothing or it could be something pretty dramatic.  Not sure which!  I would hate for anything to be wrong with my baby.

Hey, that's NOT what Maggie has! Stop reading! :-)

Traci, I think sometimes the more you read about something on the Internet, the worse you feel. I think for your sake, you should take Maggie to the vet and get this checked out. It could be a million things and many of them perfectly harmless, but I feel like you will continue to worry without a vet visit.  Let the vet tell you what, if anything, is wrong. Maggie is beautiful!!
