Does anyone have any creative solutions for disposing of doggie do?
Earthday is coming this week and it makes me reflect on my carbon footprint..
My municipality recycles a lot of plastics and we compost a lot of organics. But the municipality wants doggie do in the trash. We scoop all the poo as Chester prefers the side of the road for this activity. So this does amount to an extra trash bag a month on garbage day...Heavy too. So my biodegradable bags will likely not biodegrade in a trash bag in a landfill.
We live in a suburban area with lots of trees in our yard. I suppose I could attempt to encourage him to do his business in the woods and let it naturally compost. How hard would it be to retrain that? Chester is a bit of a fraidy cat at night.
I saw in a pet store..a composter for dog poo. I have two composters I use for my veggie and flower gardens..to compliment the green bin city pick up. Most of what you read discourage pet feces in those composters. I wouldn't want to use it on my veggies...but maybe grass.
Does any one have success with poo composter.
I do think it is funny that in a neighboring town it is accepted in their green bin pick up.
If anyone has a green idea..I would love to get the scoop.
Happy Earth Day

That Doogie Doo Drain is really cool. We have our own septic tank - and live in Canada so I think I will research that a bit more. I didn't even think about all the poo that would be generated from all of the DKers with more than 1 doodle.
I actually recycle the bags the newspaper comes in as poop bags.
You must have a nice newspaper dude! Ours usually have tears in them because he launches it at the cement steps!
I have a big yard, and an open field, and then woods. My dogs were housebroken using the yard right out side the door, but on their own, without training, they always go out in the field or in the woods. I have a friend with a fenced in back yard, and he uses a garden hose, and immediately after his Dog goes he hoses it down with a hard stream of water, and it dissolves it into the grass. He has a nice green lawn, so it must work pretty well. He has no children living at home, and only his Dog uses the yard, but I guess someone barefooted could pick up a disease, but after a day there is absolutely no trace to be seen!
I would love to have a mini spetic system in my yard, or a poop composter, but that wont happen til I own my own place. You can buy flushable bags (that break down fast) but im not sure if your supposed to put dog poop into the sewer (though I dont see how its any different from human waste). In Vancouver where I used to live, it was illegal to put dog poop in the regular waste as well as flush it - not sure what they expected us to do with it!
My inlaws dog poops on walks, and as its in the country (and in the ditch) it doesnt get picked up, but it just sits there, and its nasty when we walk past. They have an area in the trees on the property where she goes at night, but again, that is super nasty, with an area the size of a small dining table just covered in poop. Maybe in the summer it will decompose faster, but then surely it will smell.
You also need to be careful with adding the nutrients to the ecosystem if the area is naturally low nutrient soil, as it can change the species composition.
Have you ever heard of the ashpoopie?
I never heard of it. We'll see how much it costs, ow much energy it uses, etc.
I wonder how much that will cost - Doesn't seem to be available. What is in that Cartridge???
Some sites when I googled it referred to it as 'Cremation' .. Very interesting product.
