Has anyone had a dog that experienced lethargy after getting an application of the flea med?
Ginger has been sleeping yesterday afternoon and again this morning. She ate ok but not her spunky self.
She is 24 pounds, so she moved up to the larger dose and I wonder if this has anything to do with it?
Should I wash it off?
Thanks,

Interesting. i was considering going over the river to the states (im in canada) to buy some medication - it costs a fortune over here from the vet, and flea and tick season is upon us!
Now that is funny...... I buy my prescription drugs from Canada and I live in the USA... and you live in Canada
and you want to come here to buy yours! Maybe it is just pet meds that are cheaper here?
I think maybe it's that you can't buy it in stores or order it on-line in Canada and have to get it from the vets who charge top dollar.
A lot of people do buy them on-line from places like Foster & Smith or 1-800-petmeds, but I had a bad experience with buying Heartgard from F & S and now will only buy from the vet. They give rebates and "buy 2, get 1 free" quite often. You can also get coupons by registering with the companies on-line. To me, it's just not worth taking a risk for a few dollars, which is really all you save. Even if you saved $20 for a 6 month supply, that's only a little more than $3 a month. Not worth getting as counterfeit product, to me.
The Frontline products are pretty easy to get elsewhere, since they don't require a prescription. My local Pet Supplies Plus sells it, you can probably find it in most pet supply stores, where you could also verify the source.
You could try 1-800-petmeds for the Heartgard. Your vet will usually have to fax an Rx. My bad experience was with Foster & Smith, I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with 1-800-etc.
It has all the company info; when I was ordering from F & S, I did call Merial to verify that they do sell to them. The issue I had was that F & S sent me separate individual chewables from several lot numbers, with very short expiration dates, all put into a plastic bag without the original boxes, like they were trying to use up some opened product they had lying around. If you get a sealed box, you should be fine.
why do the worming meds require prescriptions - Im not sure my vet would give me one as they will loose money from not selling it (here in Caanda you can only get the stuff that works from the vet)
is sentinal a good one? I see it does worms and fleas. (same company as Interceptor by the looks of it)
Giving Heartgard, or any HW preventative, to a dog who is HW positive can have very serious consequences. That's why they require a prescription, so that the vet can make sure the dog tests HW negative before starting the preventatives.
Heartworms are unlike any other type of worm (roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm, etc.). The others live in the GI tract. Heartworms live in the circulatory system and the heart.
