Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I took a drive today with a couple of my neighbors and showed them where I used to live as a teenager. My heart broke when I saw a dog chained to a tree in the front yard. The chain was wrapped around the tree several times and the poor dog was shivering. I stopped the car and looked and could see no sign of a water bowl, no dog house, nothing for shelter. The dog look a little listless to me from the car.
Don't have any idea how long that dog was there, but I came right home and called the hotline for abused animals. In my mind, I figured that if the dog was just there temporarily, it is better that they check it out, than if the dog is there all the time and nobody calls.
Would you have done the same? Was I wrong?
UPDATE: I drove back over there this morning and the dog and the chain were gone! Thanks goodness!

Good for you. Are the animal welfare people you called obliged to respond to your call? Will you be able to find out the outcome? Anyway you definitely did the right thing....some people are downright cruel.
I think they are obliged to respond. I actually called two numbers. One was the County Animal Resource and because I got voicemail, I called another number listed under under our biggest local City. I don't know if I will be able to find out the outcome, but I may drive by there tomorrow and see if the dog is still there.
I am so sad thinking about that poor dog. You definitely did the right thing! You know, even IF the owners are pretty decent people (and are just stupid), then they'll now be aware & change their habits. If they don't, then they are just plain mean, in which case it should be reported also. Either way - You did this dog a HUGE favor!
You definitely did the right thing! Kudos!
You totally did the right thing. Good for you.
Great job.... I would have called too - probably from my car - assuming I had my phone!
Good job. I once called the police about suspicious characters next door. I figured if they were OK no harm They were in fact burglars and the police caught them. My neighbor bought me a case of wine. So yes, when in doubt do the right thing. You did!
Great job! I would have called too. I probably would have unchained him and brought him home...but I think that is illegal. Let us know if he is out there again tomorrow.
Our local spca has this letter on their website ......I have used it twice in my neighborhood.

Thanks Ronna, I wish we had this ordinance in our City. I plan to print this off and show it to my next door neighbor, who is on City Council! It is a great idea for an ordinance!
Good idea, so happy you made the calls.
Awesome, all cities should enforce the same law.
