Has anyone had a dog that experienced lethargy after getting an application of the flea med?

Ginger has been sleeping yesterday afternoon and again this morning.  She ate ok but not her spunky self.

She is 24 pounds, so she moved up to the larger dose and I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

Should I wash it off?

Thanks,

Interesting. Cooper has never been tested for heartworm, and no vet has asked us about worm or flea prevention other than the first vet we went to when she was a puppy

A person in the Pathology Department at the Vet School at Guelph says that heartworms are "unlikely to be established in northern Canada above the 60th parallel."  Maybe that's why?

Here is the URL for the Vet School site: http://www2.ovc.uoguelph.ca/

Where we live, in South-Central Texas, heartworms are well established and a serious problem. Cosmo gets tested at every checkup.

That's probably the reason. I know there are certain areas here in the U.S., mainly out West, where HW is rare. But it has spread in the U.S. geographically, and it is now seen in areas where it wasn't before, so I think eventually, it may get to these other areas, too.

Here's a slideshow of the HW incidence maps from 2010 and bvefore, showing how much the areas have increased:

Cosmo has been on Sentinel his whole life. We've never had any issues with it.

Sentinel and Interceptor are both made by Novartis, which closed the manufacturing plant late last fall. Supplies are running short, but some vet's offices may still have some in stock.

We don't have a heartworm problem in Ireland it would be very very rare, when I asked my Vet he was a little bit surprised and said I must have lots of friends in the US LOL, nor do we have a big tick problem except on farms.  I use a topical called Advocate once a month and a worming tablet that isn't covered by the topical (can't remember the name) once every three months.  All I know is that I get them both from the vets and so far so good.  I know that even when the names can appear the same as meds you get the composition can be different so I can't take meds advice without checking very carefully here.  Do dogs build up a resistance to certain preventatives and is there a case for changing every once in a while?

I don't think the dogs build up a resistance but more likely that the pests do : )

I have Only used Frontline Plus for Sasha...since she was a puppy.

The Only place that I have purchased it has been from my Vet...but..we just moved and the last purchase has been online from Dr. Fosters and Smith.

Since I got some Very good "advice and caution" from Karen...I made sure that the boxes were Sealed and the Dates Were Current.

I have Never had any problem thus far with this medication with Sasha...and she just turned three.

Sasha also gets the Lymes Disease shot.

With the mild winter that we had...ticks are a real problem!

After doing some reasearch...I am thinking of getting titers for Sasha when she goes for her three year "well visit".
