I'm in the process of house hunting and one of the challenges I've found is getting a house that has a tub or shower that is ideal for bathing doodles. A lot of newer or renovated houses now a days have soaker tubs, which are imposible to lift 72lbs dogs in and out of, let alone the maneuvering to get them clean. If I were to bath the doodles in a soaker tub, I'd need spend a good 30 minutes in there after them just to sooth my back muscles. Can anyone say Robaxacet?

Then there are the stand up showers that are usually in a corner, which are impossible to fit a doodle and a human in. I've seen stand up showers that are the rectangular space of a tub, but without the tub, just glass shower doors, this is better, but it still means that I have some awkward maneuvering to do to get in there with the doodles, unless I remove the glass doors, but then I'm sure there'd be a big mess to clean up.

So in the end I gave up on finding this in a house and resolved that whatever house I chose I will need to install somesort of showering/bathing facility for the doodles. Now that I've found the perfect house, just waiting to see if they accept my counter offer, I need to know what kind of a tub/shower would be ideal to install in the basement (and hopefully not too expensive). The drainage is all there, and there's plenty of space, so it is all possible (pending the home inspectors approval anyway).

So let me have it. What would be your ideal doodle tub/shower?

wow thats a fantastic article!

Wow.. that is awesome..Dare to dream.

I have a very large walk in shower with a hand held hose as well as the one on top.  It could easily fit two dogs and a person.  I only have Riley but when I wash him I get in with him and it's much easier that way!

I stay outside of the shower with a similar setup. It does get messy and it is not easy on my knees or back but we manage, one doodle at a time. Usually I wait a well between doodles and mine don't get bathed often.

Some ideas for "cheap" walk-in showers:

When I had a larger dog I hooked a hose up to the laundry basin in the garage and washed him outside on the sidewalk (in the backyard) or in the driveway.  That doesn't work so well in the winter though!

Ricki, that's a good option. My friend said he got his at Costco for $500. That I can do. i've been collecting photos for inspiration and I'll add this one too.

Has Lucy and Sophie's Mom posted yet?  She installed a bathing area for her doodles.

When we remodeled our house, we built a new laundry room and garage and the main thing I wanted was a batheing area for the dogs.  We have a double sink and Groucho stands with his front feet in the front tub and back feet in the back tub.  Works for us.  They have a ramp they can walk up to the tub and that saves my back.  I just have a cookie and walk it up the ramp in front of them.  The laundry room is on a concrete slab and has a small hot water heater just for that room.  We can adjust the sprayer for whatever temperature we want for the dogs.  I will try to find a photo to attach here.  Well, this is not it.  I will have to try going through some more photos.  It's very hard to see with the tiny photos on my computer files.

Took a little searching but here it is.

Looks like a great setup.

It is.  Hondo and Groucho Too were too large for one sink, but they had no trouble straddling  the sink.  They would even turn around when asked to.  Harpo fits fine in one sink.  The grooming and drying tables are on both sides, but we have a shorter table in the garage for doing their trims.  Works for us.

That looks great, but I don't think I'd ever get Winston in something like that.
