Yes, that's what I do. Grain free Acana changed to another variety when the bag is done. And buying a small bag first makes sense of course.
F....Where did you see the special offer for TOW?
Sorry, it was for Acana.
We feed Luna TotW - it's available at Pet Valu if you have one in your area. She LOVES the salmon variety so far, and we're thinking of trying a new flavor next time for variety.
We buy a 30 lb. bag and she goes through it in about 2 months - we keep half of it in the bag (closed with some metal clips) and half in a big closed tupperware container for easy access while maintaining freshness.
How much do you feed per day? I use the same food and it's gone in less than a month. My doodle is 5 months, 45 lbs and I feed 4 cups per day. I'd love it if the bag lasted longer :-)
Puppies eat more food per pound of body weight than adults. As she gets older, you will feed less food proportionately.
Cooper used to eat Orijen (same company as Acana). We bought the middle sized bag, 15lb, and it would last her (60lbs) just over 1 month. pretty good value on a price per meal basis!
wow that is amazing!!
After calling every company in my area that sells TOTW no one sells the puppy ones yet, has anyone heard good things about Horizon Legacy?
They said it should be coming in soon, so if im done my RC by that time and it doesnt come, would ALS be a reasonable switch until the puppy formulas come in
I wouldn't start with the ALS formula if you are going to be switching to puppy formula in a short time. I'd try to start with what you intend to feed longer term. Her digestive system is still immature, and switching foods too often at this stage can lead to problems down the line. I think Elizabeth's suggestion of ordering on-line is a good one; then you can get it from the store when they get it in.
Horizen Legacy is a good food, too.
Michelle, you might want to consider ordering online. There are several online vendors that offer good prices on Orijen, Acana, and TOTW, combined with low-cost or free shipping.
I just ordered a 29.7-pound bag of Orijen Senior formula from petflow.com for USD $69.99 and the shipping was free!
I think it's worth investigating!
