I get my new puppy in thirteen days and I'm trying to pick the perfect name for her! Did all of you have a name picked out before you got your new puppy? And if you did, did you keep that name or did you change your mind after living with the puppy for a few days? Maybe I'm obsessing for nothing - maybe I should just stick with the two names I've picked and hope that the perfect name just comes to me when I hold her for the first time?

The Name Game, that's what you need. I had wonderful help from all of DK naming my newest addition. I'll bet
you could get a lot of great suggestions from your friends here!
I've always named my pets after old movie stars or singers. Crosbey, Humphrey, Bogart, Rooney and Stewart. I say go with something that you LOVE, something that might be a little different. Looks at your hobbies, interests etc. and then see what pops into your mind.
We didn't have a name chosen for one of our dogs, and when he came home we called him Dudley. It suited him perfectly. We haven't been as happy with any of the other dog's names. Owen was named by our granddaughter... long story, but we really wish we had named him Kramer after the Seinfeld sitcom character. He acts just like him and has an unruly shock of hair on the top of his head. My DGD cried when we suggested that we wanted to change his name. It would have been perfect.
I just looked at Owen's pictures and you are absolutely right - He does look like "Kramer"!!! Too funny BUT you never mess with grandchildren! She will remember that she named "Owen" for the rest of her life!!!!! and that is priceless!!!
With my experience, we should have waited until she was in our house for at least 2 minutes LOL!
I was set on Myla (my little angel) She is definitely not an angel!~Good luck!
I had to think about "Myla - my little angel" and that is awesome!!!!
PS Even if she's not an "angel" LOL
So, your Riley is a male - that is my concern - it is a name for both male and female - I think mostly male???? - and I want something a bit more feminine I think! Our first dog was named "Kara". My son named her because she was the color of a caramel - I LOVED the name and it was so sweet and feminine! Then we had "Zak" (Zakita) but also very male oriented so I'm just not sure about this name game!!!! I think I will wait and see!
Don't ask me :) No, I did not name my dog.
I'm new here - why didn't you name your dog? Was he already named? Or is there a story I don't know?????
See, I was wondering about that name as well. What's the story?
I used to keep the potatoes in a basket in the kitchen. When I brought my new puppy home, he rushed over, stole a potato and took off through the house running like he was in heaven with an entire basket of new balls :)
For several days this continue and the potatoes had to be moved the the pantry.
Mind you, my sons used to eat 10lbs easily a week in potatoes so we had a lot at that time. In addition to the puppies obsession with potatoes he thought were balls, my husband always used the endearment term" Spud" for small children and his God daughters.
So that is where the name came from-Spud.
I really fought the name. I lost. The two potato lovers in the house and my husband who calls cute little things, Spud, won.
A few weeks ago, I had a cute little foster doodle who was a real head turner. We joked and called her Tater. As in Ro-tator. Thanks to my DK friends for their suggestions :)
I wanted the name Nick or Jimmy and a few others. I should be happy he was not named, Potato or Idaho
LOL, that's for the explanation. I bet the name grew on you just fine. :-)
