Last night as I drive up my street I notice a man and his dog walking past our house, I smile and wave because I have seen this dog since he was 3 months old walking with his owner and now he is like 90 lbs! I get closer to my house and hear Zoe barking. The front door is open with only the screen door closed because my DH is cooking and I always tell him to open the doors and windows when cooking.I open the garage door, park, and as I am gathering up my stuff I see a neighbor (4 houses down) walking up to me.
He asks, "Is that your dog barking?'
I say "yes"
He says "ANNOYING!"
I give him a frown, and then he walks away.
First of all, she only barks when she see's people pass by our house. We do not have THAT many people pass by because we are not a big street and we live on top of a hill. Second of all, it was probably a mere 2 minutes of barking if not less because she stops once they are gone. I think she kept barking because she saw my car though...so 1 minute person passing, 1 minute my car. Third of all...ALL the dogs in my neighborhood bark...they're DOGS!
I thought it was SO rude of him! I was so mad and am still annoyed that a neighbor would be so impatient and rude. DH said for it not to bother me but I can't help it.
**UPDATE*** so the guy came over and complained again. Zoe was only barking for a minute because there was something outside. Of course she will bark more when he comes and rings the doorbell. He comes every chance he gets...sorry my dog bothered you twice in your lifetime! DH told me they have a baby so the guy is just taking out his frustrations out on us. It really upsets me the way he complains and not necessarily that he is complaining. I get that barking dogs are annoying but he's so rude and nasty about it. I even saw his wife walking with the baby one time and stood right in front of our house pretending to look at something. Of course Zoe barked and i actually went to the front door, picked her up, and brought her to the kitchen. The weird part was...that lady looked back and looked like she was wondering why my dog stopped. I think she was provoking my dog on purpose. We are going to cover the fence doors to our yard this weekend so she cant see out. I read an article that says to take your dogs and introduce yourself to your neighbor and try to talk about it but it kills me to think of being that civil because he's so mean! Sighhhh....

Joanna, I don't know why people go out of their way to be rude, but I would just ignore him. He probably does not like dogs, which is his loss.
You could always do what my kids used to do when they were fighting and answer, "I know you are, but what am I." LOL
LOL!!
Tara does something similar-what I call "alarm barking". She tells us if there is a delivery or something else going on out front that we need to be aware of. I appreciate it and really don't want her to stop doing it. She just barks for a minute or less and then stops. Zoe was just saying "Hey, someone is walking by the house" and "Oh, there's mom!". Your neighbor must not be a dog person and he will never get it! And his approach is not exactly the best way to get someone to change a behavior anyhow! :(
I love these. especially the first one.
ahahaha "WHATEVER!"
There is just no accounting for some people. Ignore it, or just smile, like you think it is a compliment. That is always annoying to annoying people -since generally they are looking for an argument.
"WOW MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" Kill him with kindness whenever you see him! They hate that!
Grumpy old man! It's not like it was in the middle of the night!
What a Jerk! He's the annoying one!
Oh how I love my DK family! I feel so much better & thank you everyone for making me laugh. I will try to shrug it off. I dont have time & energy to waste on him...I have a DOODLE to tend to!!!
