Amante was chilling at the front screen door this morning. I was doing laundry, cooking, homework etc.

I was walking back and forth accumulating laundry, putting laundry away in other words I was watching him. He was laying on the foyer rug enjoying the cross breeze. I am in the Laundry room doing a switch and hear him parking, not unusual but rare. I stop and call him. I hear a crash and RUN to the foyer. There is a BIG Dog on my Amante. He had crashed thru the screen and into my foyer. I instinctly try to grab the dog by the collar and try yanking him off. The hair on the back of him was standing straight up. I am screaming of course. I result to hitting him with the stick vacuum (closest weapon other then the Swiffer stick). He finally let go of Amante and I yelled for Amante to go in his crate. He did!! (Good Boy) I was able to kick the door shut. Now it is me and this dog who is now pissed because I hit him with the vacuum. He is trying to chew through the crate! I am worried because it is not latched. So I have my vacuum and am warding of this dog. My neighbor who was mowing his lawn finally heard my screaming. He came in I yelled for him to call police he did they arrived to find me standing on the crate with my vacuum now broken, guarding Amante!! I can only imagine what I looked like!! It was not pretty.

Amante miraculously seems fine, clingy and very affectionate. Animal control told me that the dog was chipped so they could find who it belonged to.  He told me hiting him and kneeing him was not the best idea. I won't repeat my answer!!! I can't believe he just crashed through the screen like that!!! I think I am fine but am sure I will be sore later!! I guess I can't have a screen on front door.

Update: I have my glass in now!! Amante still sits in front of door and watches the passerby's. My husband comments that he wouldn't be afraid either if he had a pitbull bodyguard!!  I called about the other dog and was told he was still in custody and that no one has responded to the messages that were left. He was chipped so they have been trying to reach the owners. If no one claims him I guess that means he will be put down. I feel sad for him. I  am very very sore. My neck and shoulders are the worst of it.  Imagine tomorrow will be worse before it gets better.

And what exactly would be the "best idea" under those circumstances?!? For goodness sake, I'm sure you were just operating off of instinct and adrenaline.  How terrifying!  I would have been completely freaked out!! Very thankful the dog didn't turn on you next!

Right!!! He was lucky I didn't turn on him with the vacuum!! That comment only made me more angry!!

I think you should have started swinging the vacuum, screaming like a banshee, and asking him, "So, what's your best idea now, Smart Guy?!?!?!"

This is a horrible nightmare! I cannot imagine what you have just gone through. You must be shaking like a leaf. What crazed dog smashes through a door??? I hope you are able to carefully examine every square inch of Amante. Their coats are so thick it can be hard to notice a puncture wound. I'm so so sorry this happened. Will you be able to find out who this monster belongs to and let them know how angry you are that their dog was loose to do this?

I did search every inch. Every time he licks himself I am examining him. Should I take him to the vet! I will be shaking like a leaf tomorrow. Right now I am ANGRY!! Fortunately my kids were in school, I do want to know who this dog belongs to. He had a collar. I am really concerned that Amante was traumatized. I think he should be able to sit at his door and do whatever he wants with out fear!!! I am so MAD!!

Of course you are mad, you should be mad! Thank God the children were not home. OMD!

Glad you and Amante did not get hurt.

OMG, that is frightening.  I hope you and Amante are OK.  I think you did just fine with that vacuum!  Maybe a baseball bat beside the front door would be a good idea....knock that dog out!

OMD how aweful. yes you will be sore tomorrow - make sure you have a bottle of wine or something to take some of the pain away!

Poor Amante - check him over very carefully and if he is hurt contact the police for the dog owners info so they can pay the vet bills! id want to know why was the dog unattended, where does he live and does he have a history of aggression.

Good boy Amante for going to his crate :)

What else were you supposed to do, you let the dog attack you and Amante? I would have hit out too. Thankfully you have the vacume nearby, thats a pretty good weapon!

Never cross a MOM and her Vacuum!!

Rose Ann!  That is unbelievable.  You think you are safe in your own house!  Good job Amante listening to his command even in the face of such distraction.  Good job to you protecting him.  I may have been tempted to give the animal control guy a taste of the vacuum too!  Hugs to you and Amante.  You will need a glass of wine for yappy hour tonight.

Oh my goodness!!! I would have hit the dog with a vacuum too. That is terrible!  So glad Amante is okay - and GOOD BOY for going to his crate!  Have some wine tonight for SURE.
