Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Some of you might know that I went crazy and put my name on a waitlist for another English Goldendoodle. We wanted a little sister for Monty, we were just 2nd on the waitlist after the breeder keeps the female pick of the litter. Dad is the same, just a different poodle Mom, so she would be a half sister to Monty. Yay! The litter was supposed to be born on May 19th, but there was no news.  Finally today, I heard from our breeder: the poodle mom was going into labor. And the counting begins: first puppy male, second female. Big puppies. Third and fourth puppy born: males. Another male an hour later. The birth was finished with....wait for it.....a male!

There are 5 males and 1 female. How soo not typical is that!

So oh-oh, Monty might get a brother instead? But wait, what do I do with the pink collar and leash? Good grief, I don't have a male name either! It took me 3 months to come up with a female name Macie. Yes, it was supposed to be Monty and Macie..... my M&M's.

Now what?

(More updates to come in the next 8 weeks)

UPDATE 1: after 2 hours when everyone though the labor was over, here comes 7th puppy: a female. I might get my Macie afterall...now that I've gotten used to the idea of having two boys. :-)

UPDATE 2 (5/23/12): I just spoke with our wonderful breeder. We had a lengthy conversation about what we want in a puppy and what would be the best fit. Soooo, we are "donating" our female spot on the waitlist to the family who only wanted a female dog for their son and we are going to have a first pick of a male puppy. Monty's sister will be a BOY. I feel like it's a good decision. Now I still need a boy name.

UPDATE 3 (5/28/12): I have seen the first pictures of the litter. Monty's brother is in there somewhere. All pics are courtesy of our wonderful breeder.

UPDATE 4 (06/16/12): The puppies are three weeks old now. Here is a collage of all 5 boys. One of them will be Monty's little brother.

UPDATE 5 (07/12/12):  the puppies are 7 weeks old and Auggie will be coming home on July 17th. The baby gates are up, as well as Monty's old crate. Few more days of me being able to sleep in. Oh boy...

UPDATE 6 (07/17/12): We have our little boy now. I completely forgot how tiny these puppies are compared to my Monty monster. We went with a more mellow guy.  Monty wanted to have nothing to do with little Auggie, but as soon as we got home, he warmed up to him and is more curious about Auggie. He was quiet the whole ride home (2 hours) just eyeballing Monty in the car. Right as we pulled into our garage, Auggie threw up on Bill. He is very good in his crate and just plays by himself with his bully stick. We will see how the first night goes.

Congratulations!  Choose the pup according to personality and you can't go wrong. Are all of them light like Monty?  Macie Macy or even the sound alike, Matey, could be a boy name, but perhaps dk members can help you with some 'M' names you might like.  Clancy's 'contest' was great fun and actually netted some wonderful name choices.  PS, I have all boys although I thought I wanted a girl every dog after my first female family dog 35 years ago!

I have not seen the pics yet, but both of the parents are white. I told the breeder that temperament and compatibility with Monty matters the most. I kind of liked the idea of having two boys since it would be easy to just repeat "good boy" and not make a mistake. We'll see.

i have 2 girl cats and a girl dog - then we got a boy cat - it was very tough remembering to say good boy. Just yesterday i said good girl to him, and we have had him over a year!

So exciting, Jarka! You and Monty are in for a great ride... female or male.

ooohhh, congratulations. I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear all abuot it and see the pictures!

How wonderful! I am sure you will be happy with a boy or a girl! Lyric has had two litters, one with 5 boys and one with 6 boys and 2 girls. Another litter I delivered had 5 girls and 2 boys--so it can get pretty lopsided!

Any gender is good I'm sure. Congratulations Jarka.

Congratulations on your new puppy! How exciting!!!

Congratulation, this is so exciting and I am so envious. I am still waiting for a litter of ALD's due late summer. Yup, they have not yet been conceived, but I am impatiently waiting. This is such a fun time for you. I already have a pink collar and matching leash already waiting. Good luck.

How about Mason, if you get a boy?  I think Mason and Monty sound very cute together!

Mackie sounds good.

I hope you get that girl but a boy will be just as fun. Congratulations.
