Since I have been a member on DK, I have learned so much useful information and a lot about members’ dogs.  I know about the illnesses that afflict some DK doodles.  I know which dogs are picky eaters and which ones have poop issues or behavior problems.  But it dawned on me, that with a few exceptions, I don’t really know much about the humans of DK.    Many of us recently stepped out of our comfort zones to post pictures of ourselves on our profiles, but there is no lasting record of that.  I know that DK members are compassionate people that are truly invested in the lives of their doodles, but what makes you tic?  Who are you when you have to step away from DK and enter the real world (the horror!!)?  So I challenge you to give us a little info about the person behind the dog.

I’ll go first.

Name: Amy

Location: Dyer, IN (35 minutes outside of Chicago)

Generation: Millennial   (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2011/05/living/infographic.boomer/in...)

Birth Order: Oldest of 3 kids – the only girl

Family: Husband, no kids

Education: Purdue and DePaul

Occupation: CPA – I work as a tax analyst for a Steel Mill.  I hope to work as a Business Officer for a Public School in the near future; I want to feel like my job actually matters.

Biggest Fear:  I have a phobia of grasshoppers.  Yes, I know they don’t bite or anything but they just really freak me out.  They blend into their surroundings and when you least expect it they jump/fly around…yuck

General: super organized, sometimes impatient, a planner – not a spur of the moment type of person, shy – I much prefer to sit back and take it all in rather than be the center of attention, obsessed with details, cautious (I was going to list the craziest thing I had ever done, but then I couldn’t come up with anything so I had to leave it out!), and incredibly sarcastic – but I swear, I am NOT as boring as I sound!!

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  A big fat penguin – one of those cute cartoony looking ones.

Addiction: A new yogurt place recently opened here (called Red Mango).  You go in and fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt/soft serve ice cream as you want and then you can top it with all kinds of great toppings (candy, cookies, fruit, choc syrup, etc).  I have become an addict, especially now that it has gotten warm outside.  I go there at least once a week, and I’m sure it will get worse before it gets better.

Random Useless Fact About Me: I have eaten oatmeal almost every weekday morning since October 2009

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Sister Wives -- I have no idea how I got started watching it, but now I am hooked.

I saw the cover of the DVD at the video store once and that was enough to give me the creeps, there is no way I could sit and watch it.

Clowns are freaky! My theory is that because their makeup and their actual facial expressions aren't in synch, we can't process the dissonance and it makes us uncomfortable. It's just a theory of course and I've never run it past a professional (clown or scientist). ;)

Love this analysis! I don't know why but they are creepy!

Joni, it's amazing what concern for one's child can do in helping overcome a fear.  I'm VERY claustrophobic.  Once, while on a trip to England, my husband, daughter (then 6 years old), and I climbed to the top of a tower at Warwick castle.  Panic set in about halfway up the ever-more-closed-in stairway, but I kept going.  Once up at the top, I was panicked about having to go back down the stairs.  My other options - rappelling down the side or being airlifted off by helicopter - were unreasonable, so I had no choice.  After my husband made sure the stairway was cleared of other visitors, I grabbed my daughter's hand and down we went, counting the stairs as we went.  I focused on her and we made it down!!

Joni - We seem to have a lot in common, although you are a much faster runner than me!

This is fun Amy. Thanks for doing this..........

Name: Carla

Location: San Mateo CA (on the Peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose) Grew up in Rochester, NY

Generation: Baby Boomer

Birth Order: Youngest of 3, 2 older brothers. Spoiled...yes!!

Family: Husband of almost 33 years, 3 kids...2 boys, 28 and 26, daughter, 19. I followed my mom with 2 boys, then a darling girl. Is she spoiled...oh yeah, but in a good way!!!

Education: SUNY Brockport, NY, moved to CA right after graduation in 1978. Lived here ever since

Occupation: Many hats, many jobs from being a mom to business owner to caregiver to my mom. We've owned an electrical contracting business for almost 30 years. I do the office managing and bookkeeping. Oldest son is in "training" to inherit the business when we want to retire which will probably be never. It's really wonderful to see father and son work together and feed off of each other. Over the years I have been very fortunate to only have to work part-time so I could be with my kids. I was also a partner in a medical billing business for 12 years. I still dabble in that too.

Biggest Fear: heights and speed. I love to ski but can't deal with getting too close to the edge or a really steep hill. I'm a fair weather skiier.

General: Organized and controlling but not to the point of anal (as my girlfriend puts it):) Just like to get things done so I don't have to think about it anymore:) Lover of ALL animals. My mom can't figure it out because she's petrified of animals. BUT...loves my doodles!!! Love being with my kids. My youngest is at the Univ of Oregon. We're empty nesters now so our doodles are our kids now. Can't wait for our daughter to come home for the summer!!!! Love to entertain...BBQ style. Our house is the "go to" house for BBQ's. Hubby loves to cook and fish. We cook together a lot. We're a great team. But I need to learn to cook in smaller quantities because it's only the 2 of us now. I'm Italian...I cook BIG:) Although the boys manage to con a dinner a couple times a week. Oldest is getting married this summer. So excited!!!!

If I could have any pet that wasn't a doodle: it would have to be something snuggly and cuddly. What else is there but a doodle!

Addiction: chocolate. I don't need a lot, just a taste will satisfy me

Random useless fact about me: I can touch my nose with my tongue:)

Guilty pleasure TV show: House, Bones, Glee, Grey's Anatomy. Don't usually watch the reality shows except for American Idol towards the end.

Books: Feel good love stories and suspense books. Love, love , love my e-books now. Favorite Authors: Diana Gabaldon, Lisa Gardner, Iris Johansen

Name: Sheri

Location: Have finally settled about 40 miles east of Cincinnati which is where I grew up, but have previously lived in GA, England, Las Vegas, Connecticut and FL in over 35 houses in 12 different cities

Generation: Boomer

Birth Order: Middle of 3 (older brother, younger sister)

Family: Husband, no kids

Occupation: Executive Assistant, Office Manager.  Used to work in Protocol (like Goldie Hawn only without the body and gorgeous blonde hair).

Biggest Fear:  Snakes ... DH once killed one in Fl and I wouldn't let him put it in our trash can but made him take it up to the neighborhood grocery and put it in the dumpster in case it came alive again!

General: Extremely independent.  Favorite words when I was a toddler were "Me Do".  They still make fun of me about that.   Married to the most wonderful guy ever for 26 years.  We are a retired Air Force family and my blood is red, white and blue.  I cry when I hear the National Anthem or see a soldier in uniform.  I was raised in a small town on a farm and could not wait to leave for the big City.

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  An Alpaca (actually two because you must have a pair or one gets too lonely).

Addiction: Diet Mtn Dew and Pet Stores (that don't have snakes or puppies) and Pinterest!

Random Useless Fact About Me:   My dream job would have been selling T-shirts on the beach.

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: I love junk TV.  I DVR them on the TV at the treadmill so that I'm forced to walk on it to get to watch them.  It is sort of my reward.  Bachelor/Bachelorette and Housewives of Orange County get me 3 hours a week, then some House Hunters gets me another hour or two and I can finish out the week with some Guiliana and Bill.  If I don't have any of those I'll take some Millionaire Matchmaker or Say Yes To The Dress or What Not To Wear.

I too love What Not to Wear! I can watch reruns all day sometimes. I have never encountered a snake, but I suspect if I did I wouldn't like it.

I wasn't sure about the Alpacas but decided to do a little more research. I now understand the appeal. Alpacas are the 'doodles' of the camelidae family (they are even-toed umgulates - yes I used wikipedia). And, just like doodles, they are better in pairs :o)

Here are the ones that get me everytime I see them.  They have them at all of the local craft fesitvals around here selling the items made from their hair/fur.  There is this little chocolate one that gets me every time.  They are so soft.  They feel just like my Lucy.

I once visited an Alpaca ?ranch in the San Juan islands. They are such beautiful animals but a bit timid. This picture is so sweet.

We lived in CO around 12 years ago and an acquaintance invited us to her birthday party. Her children bought her an alpaca for her birthday. We were there when it arrived in the back seat of their car! It was so funny and so beautiful!!!

alpacas are awesome, but vicunas are my favorite camelid. I met one in bolivia and it was so soft.
