I love the band Rammstein! I think its a great name for a boy! And Castiel is a great girls name! I love them both!

Great names, how did you come by them?

I think you need to go to your back door and yell both words and see which one is easier to say over and over.  We changed our rescue's name from Buck because we realized that the word could be easily mis-heard and calling him in a public place could be embarrassing - not that you will have that problem with either name, but you need to see if your possible choices come off your tongue easily.

I was thinking the same thing, Nancy!

While you are obviously allowed to choose whatever you like, with either of these names you are going to spend a lot of time repeating the names, explaining the names and spelling the names, so if that if ok with you, go for it!

Have you thought about how it might be confusing for Casteil to hear:  Casteil, heel.  Unless, of course, you use another word for that command.  Getting a second dog is very exciting, regardless of his or her name!

Ah, I mispronounced it and therefore misspelled it.  Castiel - not Casteil.  I'll have to think about that one.

Jared - buddy - I'm one of your biggest fans here but you asked and so I am going to be honest - it is a big negative from me.  I agree with Nancy - try saying one of these names over and over and over - out loud.  Then also imagine how many times you are going to have to spell it, explain it and correct the wrong pronunciation.  I think it will wear thin.  My number one reason I don't care for either is because of Dakota (such an awesome name) - the two names just don't "go together".  I hope I didn't hurt your feelings and of COURSE we are all going to love your new puppy no matter what name it has - in the end the only person that needs to like is you.  Now I know you didn't ask for ideas but I love the name Montana.  Goes with Dakota.

Jared, though the names are great for what they are IMO too much name for a doodle....why not find something that works well with Dakota (how did you choose that name). You will however, probably shorten the name Rammstein right off the bat don't ya think, and end up calling him/her Rami, otherwise that is a lot of name for a puppy.

I think you should try on a few more. :o)

In the end though, a name is just a name but getting a new doodle, well that just can't be beat.

Names are so personal. When I was projecting names for my anticipated ALD, my daughter-in-law said the name I am favoring sounded like a name for a plane. Gosh, I did not even know people named planes. I am staying with the name, it is special to me. Jared, that is all that matters. Just love that new puppy.

I agree that these seem to be too much name. Also, for training purposes, you want something that is easy for you to say and easy for the dog to recognize and differentiate from other words. Believe it or not, there are training books that discuss this subject. Hard consonant sounds, syllables that do not blur together, and a vowel on the end (Dakota is a perfect example) are considered best.

Between the two you are considering, I prefer Castiel. But say it and notice how the two syllables blur together. There is no clear break between the "Cas" and the "Tiel", because the S and T blur together. I know that's getting technical, but I think it's interesting, and hey, the more info the better, right?

I have never heard of either of these names. I guess that's my age showing. But I fantasize about having a GSD named Aerosmith, "Aero" for short.

Sorry, Jared, without going into the complicated reasons others have given which make sense, I just don't like them. To me names should be meaningful but pleasant too.
