Favorite Spots in our Gardens.

We all have beds, nooks or crannies we particularly like. Sometimes because there are shady spots to sit, or there are really pleasing plant combinations or for any reason at all. Please post some of yours here. The profile photo for the group is one of mine.

Anytime : ) The screened porch is one of my favorite places. I am a mosquito favorite but inside the porch I am safe. I have one of those anti-gravity chairs, a ceiling fan and it is very relaxing. I put in a dog door out there as well as a regular door, it was so silly not to have outside access from the porch.

It is really simple. I posted yours from the pictures you had already uploaded to DK. But the vital step in that is to got to full size first. Then copy the URL and click on the second icon from the left over the box for replies. Select "URL", paste and click "OK" when you are done.

If you using a picture from your computer just do the same thing, but select "from my computer" and browse for the right picture, then continue as above. You garden is beautiful. Please tell me you have a cast of thousands helping you.

I only have one gardener. Me. Started this when the kids left for University. I was very nervous about that, so I started gardening to take my mind elsewhere. Well one thing led to another, and I am a "plantaholic" so I'm always making room for a new addition, you know how that goes!

My Eagle Lake garden areas have been especially challenging for me over the years. We have fairly hot summers with a dry hot wind almost daily--sometimes gale force. Winers usually get snow--not too deep since we're over the creat of the Sierras but temps can drop to 20 below. We have deer and ground critters that love to eat plants, etc. To make it worse we're only there for a week every 6 weeks or so. Years ago, my neighbor and I decided to create a garden with local natives--many of which look like attractive weeds. One day while we were at home, a farmer friend that lives near us at Eagle Lake called to happily tell my husband that he got out his Roundup and took care of all my weeds!!! He is such a dear old man, I couldn't really be mad or express disapproval. So, the experiments began . . . I finally got to an ok place last year and now I can "play" with new plant varieties here and there . . .

The neighbor story is funny/sad. The gardens look lovely now and the house is lovely too. I did tell you about High Country Gardens which specializes in xeric plants. They have things that might do well for you, provided of couse your neighbor doesn't think they are weeds : )

I love High Country Gardens--I have bought plants from them in the past. I cannot tell you how many plants I have planted that "should" have been fine but died anyway . . . Deer resistant plants are not resisted by all deer and they generally only become deer resistant after they have matured . . . Problem is I'm not there to nurture new plants while they are getting established . . . this year even my Poppy's didn't re-emerge . . . the winter was too dry . . . I have wild strawberrys growing at my Sacramento house and I've started 5 flats to transplant at Eagle Lake. We have a very large dog run area (about 20' x 60') that is largely shaded by the Poplars. I think the wild strawberries would do well there as a groundcover and "my birdies" would appreciate them . . .

It sounds tough. I"m afraid the last batch I bought from HCG will die from all our rain : ) I have self planted wild strawberries in large patches. But  then I have about every "weed" known to mankind.

YES! My dependable plants include Russian Sage, Lavender, Vinca, Juniper, Silver Sage, Iris, Daffodils and, of course,--locally grown Sagebrush!!!! I experiment with new plants every year, but success is touch-and-go . . .

I love watching that space in front of our house because it attracts so many birds, butterflies and local critters: chipmonks, deer . . .
