What is YOUR special 1:1 Time with Doodle?

I have been thinking about this more and more lately - I think because our world is going to be rocked in a few months with the arrival of our little girl Charlotte.  I have been cherishing the quiet moments around the house, bonding with the dogs, date nights with DH, etc...

 

Lately the mornings have been so lovely.  They are my favorite time with Peri doodle.  After DH takes the dogs for their morning walk and they eat breakfast, Taquito hops on the living room couch for his morning nap, but Peri follows me while I get ready for work. 

 

She starts by lying just outside of the bathroom while I shower.  Then when I move into the room to put my makeup on (in the guest room actually), she follows me and hops on the bed OR sits right under my feet while I get ready.  If for some reason she is not in the room when I begin (that is rare), I call her by saying "come on makeup partner" and she is there in a few seconds.  I usually then go back to the bathroom to finish my hair and she sits outside the door again and waits for me.

 

We then proceed to my bedroom to change and she lays on the rug and just watches me, sometimes she comes up and rubs her head on my leg.  After I finish and get ready to leave, she walks me to the garage door and puts her head by my side for some goodbye pets.  Every morning this occurs and it is our special time. She doesn't follow DH around, only me. And Taquito is off doing his own thing, so it's just the two of us.

Morning and bedtime are our special times with both of mine.  In the morning, I wake up early and watch the news before getting out of bed.  Buddy is usually first next to me and cuddled around my head giving kisses and snuggles.  We talk and tell each other how much we love each other :P  Kona will be next, they take turns so nicely....  She will cuddle close usually laying on my arm so I can swoop her into a long body snuggle with lot's of little butterfly kisses also exchanging our I love you's.  Nightime is fun time and we are training now for K9 nosework, they love it, and it is our special time to get excited and have fun with each other.

Bedtime I "tuck" Snickers into his crate every night. It is a ritual he curls up reaches out his paw and I come in for a big kiss on his nose. Then I tuck his Kong between his paws and say Night Night Little Boo. When I have a wedding and get home at all hours of the evening he will actually wake up to be "Tucked In".

I am picturing the K9 nosework and that sounds like a good bonding time also.

Buddy and I are taking the intro class and teaching Kona at home.  Involves no obedience, just their sense of smell.  So much fun for dogs that like to work.

I love that your special time with Peri revolves around "girl" stuff, Allyson! JD is not a very good "make-up partner". :)

I think Peri is going to keep you company the same way when you are caring for Charlotte; you can call her your "diaper-changing partner", lol. All the girls together.

I guess my special times with JD are our walks. We walk twice a day, and if the weather is nice, we sometimes go off the beaten path and explore new areas of our neighborhood together. Together, we experience the sights, sounds, and smells of all four seasons, everything that lives and grows in our part of the world, just the two of us.

I'm a late sleeper so DH and Tara usually get up well before I do. When I do finally stumble out Tara greets me like she hasn't seen me for a week! Then we get on the couch or in a recliner together and curl up and snuggle. She gives me lots of doodle kisses  It's our special time and is the BEST way to start the day!  :)

What a great discussion topic! I JUST started back at work full time last week after only working 3 days and have started a new routine that involves driving to the park at 6:30am each morning so I can sip my first cup of coffee and he can walk (and chase bunnies) off leash and then i leash him up and we go running for about a mile. Just to get a little extra burst of exercise for both of us. It's the most amazing hour of our day. He knows that when we get home i'll make breakfast (and share a little something with him) and then when i shower and get ready for work he sits on the bed and waits....The final thing before i go to work is putting down his kibble and having him lay down on his big comfy dog bed and then i give him a cookie and when i walk out the door i look back over my shoulder to tell him i love him and he gives me the old head tilt.

I can go to work feeling that i have met his needs. The other favorite thing is bedtime. We "spoon" it's hysterical. He's a real snuggler.

My doods follow me everywhere too and since there are three, i have to use a gate sometimes to keep them from tripping me up all day. When I sit at the computer, they are all around my feet--some have bones, some are just resting--that is the time they like best for curling up around me. TV time later in the evening is another favorite since they get to sit on the couch next to me.

One of my three doodles is smaller and she was our first, so she gets to come sleep at my feet while the other two stay together downstairs (they don't mind since that is what they were raised with). Mattie gets very happy at bedtime because she knows she will have me all to herself.

Rio, the youngest, is back in training class and LOVES to see the leash come out since he thinks it always means that HE is going for a walk or HE is going to class. He gets pretty unhappy if someone else is going on the leash someplace! He loves to be with me by himself--since that is a rare experience for him.

Allie follows me EVERYWHERE! She wants to be anywhere her mommy is. I think my favorite time is, however, when we get to sleep in in the morning. This happens much more often in the summer. DH will get up before me and Allie will not BUDGE. Not even to go potty. She will sleep in with me until I decide to get up. She snuggles up to me and we have the best "talks" at this time of the morning. I would not give them up for anything!!!

Well that is one thing Peri doesn't do - SLEEP IN. Forget about it!  She is up like clockwork. Sometimes she'll go back to bed on the weekend after we have taken her out if we want to sleep longer.
