What is your favorite dog related product?

I am always looking for new cool things for my dog. I can hardly leave the house without picking up some little thing for the pup. Some of the things I've gotten have been amazing some, not so much. I thought I'd look to the doodle lovers to see what have been some of your best finds. They can be toys, grooming products, harnesses whatever.

Here are two of my favorites:

Tick Key: I couldn't live without this thing. I live in a tick hot spot and this thing works miracles.

 

Kyjen Tail Teaser: My dog goes absolutely nuts for this toy. I love it because it burns so much energy, she is absolutely knackered after playing for like 10-15 minutes. You can use it in the house if it is raining. Before we have company I always play this with Charlie, she is exhausted and calm whenever people come over. They think she is the most well behaved puppy. It's my secret weapon. I also like any toy that works with their natural instincts. This fulfills their need to chase.

Something that didn't work for my doodle:

The Everlasting Treat ball, my dog had no interest in this and it was quite expensive.

So what are your favorite dog products?

I would use a prong all the time, however I don't have the quick release or the one that does not stain my dog's coat.  That is what bothers me most.  The only reason.  (And.. just that funny thing about a dog on a highway not in a harness.  But that is another long sad story about escape. so skip it.)

As for Head Harness, flat collars, training, etc....

I don't think my dog will ever leave home without some from of assistance--Prong, head collar,  harness.  If given a choice, I prefer prong!  He is not ready.  I don't like the pulling of the trachea on the throats from flat collars, Spud is very excitable in public--hyper stimulated, and I like the gentle correction the prong permits.

I've said this before:  Gentle Leaders are great containers, but they are not trainers.    I've never mastered any training with head, harness, or flat collar.  With many of us, once that collar is off--so is the dog.  Off duty as I call it..

So you think the prong collar works in training?

Moe, don't take this task on alone. I certainly do not recommend training a dog with a prong unless you, the human, is first trained in the correct methods.  It should be used as gentle speak in conjunction with verbal commands.

Join our training group.  We have discussed this in depth in that group.  Find a trainer who can help you along, so that your dog and you get the best benefits.  Yes, I think it works beautifully and personally, I think it is the best method for leash walking.

I belong to both of the training groups. I do have a trainer, she doesn't believe in prong collars. So far Charlie has passed, puppy class, basic obedience, Second obedience and an outdoor street class. She is 9 mo old. She doesn't pull but the leash is not slack, the trainer thinks it is because she is still a puppy and we are working on it every week. I think by now she should be able to walk on a leash. I might have to find a different trainer.

No doubt that a prong is my must have item. No choking, gentle training method and no worries in any situation. Haven't had fur staining yet but we will see over time. Walked without the prong today and could hear Finn wheeze from the pressure of his flat collar, makes me nervous although he listens better than before we started the prong.

Speaking of fur staining....I thought I had it solved by getting the stainless steel prong collar but I am sad to say that this one is turning her fur gray too.  Oh well.....maybe we can start a new fashion statement with ring around the doodle neck.

I also have the gentle leader harness that goes around the snout--love it for Rio who still has that "why walk when we can run" enthusiasm!!

I love toys from WestPaw.com.  They have some chew toys that are even better than Kongs!

WestPaw toys have been very nice quality and durable. They float also, which is nice for the pool. If anything can withstand Bella, it's gets an A+ in my book, and so far her two toys have. This is what we got about a month ago. Other than Nylabone and some kongs, these are still totally intact.

The Chuck-it Ball and Launcher hands down. Daisy is a girl who loves to play. Saves are throwing arm much stress.

Quincy is a toy destroying machine and so any soft toys and stuffies are banned. He loves to play ball and the Chuck-it is just the best invention ever. We won a bag of goodies from the DRC raffle and in the bag was a package of 3 squeaky toys, I thought when I gave them to him they would last about 2 minutes, that was months ago and he still has them and happily squeaks on them every day. The barbell is his favorite and he has a little chew on it everyday after his dinner.

I have that same barbell. The neighbor was over with her two dogs and they were fighting over it. Her dog ended up taking it home. I'm sure I'll get it back, mine love it too.
