Since yesterday the garden has been giving me some angst. Luca is all too interested in my falling down shed, no doubt the woodchucks are in residence underneath. I do have to have the shed taken down but that's a project. I had my sons and Sarah out yesterday. Sarah was out taking pictures when she saw Luca saw a chipmunk come down the tree. She looked away and next thing there was a dead body. Today I was just strolling outside when I saw a yellow and green, good sized snake. No doubt a garter snake . I hustled the dogs in and when I returned to the garden the snake was gone. At least this removed my dilemma as to how to move it. This garden is becoming a bit much  for my nerves.

But then I concentrated on the good, peaceful part of gardening. The trumpet vine is starting to bloom and I will try to preserve it as much as possible when the shed comes down.

The daylilies are joining the hydrangeas, which have been in bloom for a while:

And perennials like this hardy alstroemeria Sweet Laura are blooming now:

Jane has really raised the bar for flower photos...I played around taking pics of just a couple of flowers in the garden today...and except for the Purple Cone Flower I don't know what the other one is.  I don't like those little plastic "name tags" and throw them out - not good considering I have horrible recall.   Here are my attempts at "artsy".

Beautiful Carol. You and Jane are neck and neck! The other flower looks like an zinnia to me.

Thanks so much F.    Yes! Zinnia!!!

Carol, these are Awesome!  That is some great focus on the cone flower with beautiful bokeh.  I love the composition on that one too....great placement.

Thank you Jane!    You've really inspired me....hope to get the LensBaby before summer's end.

So beautiful!

My garden is a work in progress (most of these were planted less than 1 month ago), but there are some blooms and a box of veggies/herbs!

I'm going with a "sunset" theme to my garden - almost all the flowers are yellow, red or orange.  There's a cobalt blue himalayan poppy that has yet to bloom.. I'm waiting impatiently!

Gallardia sp. "Goblin"

Mysterious red flower that I've forgotten the name of (a primrose?)

Mysterious yellow flower from an end-of-season sale

An interesting hybrid rose.  I call it the "discount rose" because it was from an end-of-season sale.  Some of the blooms are this yellowish colour, some are more pink.  I think it may have been grafted.

The tastiest part of the garden.  Dill, cherry tomatoes, red peppers, onion chives, garlic chives, strawberries and bush basil... all in one planter!

Your garden looks lovely. Mysterious red I'd need to see the whole plant to get foliage , height etc. The yellow is a coreopsis.

The red one looks like Avens (also called Geum) to me.

I think you are right. Funny, I never heard them called Avens and know them only as Geums.

I think you're right - that name sounds really familiar (Geum).
