Smelly Face

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get that nasty bile smell out of your doodle’s beard?  Cubbie threw up the yellow bile yesterday morning and I have washed his face 2 times with 2 different doggie shampoos and still can’t get rid of all the smell.  I just gave him a bath last weekend so I didn’t really want to do another full bath, but washing his face in the sink doesn’t seem to be cutting it.

It is hard to get out isn't it?  Make sure to check his legs and feet to see if any got on them.  I have taken a wash cloth...wet with hot water... put  some antibacterial liquid soap on it and suds it up,,,then get at those areas that smell.  It takes several rinsings with the wash cloth to get the soap out but it seems to work for me.  Easier than a bath!!  Good luck!

I've been doing the soap and wash cloth thing and have seen some improvement, but it is still there.  It is so much easier when they puke up kibble then you don't have to worry about a smell.

I think it is the antibacterial liquid soap that works.

Maybe you could wash his beard with a little plain white vinegar mixed with the warm water?

I was even thinking that baking soda and water might work.  I'll have to see if we have any plan vinegar and give that a try.

yuck. Sophie gets smelly face a lot. Usually a good bath does the trick, but this sounds a bit tougher. Let us know what you use and if it works!

I ended up using the baking soda.  I forgot to buy vinegar at the store and the only hand soap we have in the house is Method soap and I'm not sure that is antibacterial like Gail suggested.  So I just poured some baking soda into my hand and added a bit of water to make a paste out of it and rubbed it into the hair on his muzzle and then washed it out with a wash cloth with warm water and dried him with a towel.  The smell was gone immediately!  Now I am starting to wonder what would happen if I mixed some baking soda in warm water and either rubbed it on to their coats or sprayed it on when they need a little freshening up?  I try not to use any sprays on Ollie because he tends to be itchy, but this might be a more natural option.

Baking soda is great for stinks - I add it to my cat litter box. Cheap too. I use it for all sorts of things along with vinegar - removing limescale and rust, unblocking sinks, cleaning....  spraying on fur should work as a deodorizer too

The vinegar works great.  I also take a tiny bit of tea tree oil at times and clean my girls face with that on a facecloth.  Odor is gone instantly.  Nothing worse than a stinky beard!
