Maybe the Doodle Messenger could help?

Good idea!

Yes, Billy, we recently had another DK member whose doodle required two expensive surgeries. She and her family worked with Doodle Messenger and between that and some other fund raising were able to cover the cost or most of the cost of the surgeries.  If you find that surgery is an option for your babies she would be a good one to give you some ideas for coming up with the funds.

Here is a link to her page: http://www.doodlekisses.com/profile/Regina268

I wish you and the pups the best possible outcome. It must be heart wrenching to have little ones with such challenges. Thanks for trying to do the best for them.

It sounds to me like the sticking point of this controversy is over the use of the term 'rescue'.  In the world of dog rescue this term could be considered 'wrong' the way it was used here.  In the world of dog rescue, "rescue" can be used as both a noun and a verb.  It sounds like this breeder is using this word as a verb--these dogs need someone to rescue them.  He is not using it as a noun in the sense of these being rescued dogs. They are dogs who he has willingly taken back and kept and for which he is seeking homes.  I don't think we need to argue further about the way the term is being used.

Billy if you would be willing to change the wording about these dogs on your site, then great!  As is it makes people involved in doodle rescue question the facts about the dogs...but it's up to you.  If you're honest with individuals when they inquire about the pups and give full disclosure, I don't think it matters all that much because even if people misunderstand the situation, they'll understand it correctly once you share the full details with them.  Thus they can make a fully informed choice about adopting, or not.

Good luck finding homes for the pups.

Adina, you have a special gift for understanding what people are trying to say and explaining it without emotion. Thank you.

I have long thought Adina's next career could be in the diplomatic corps.

I think we have to move past the word "rescue," and all work together to find a solution for these pups. Personally, I look at it as two Goldendoodle puppies in need of HELP. We all want good breeders to take back their puppies/dogs if there is a problem and be willing to accept responsibility for these dogs and I think that is what you have done. The money part came when I offered to chip-in and others agreed, and at no time did I see you ask for money. As far as I am concerned, DK is here because we all love Doodles and for me, this is my chance to put my money where my mouth is and possibly make a difference in two young dog's lives.  Please let us know what the vet says and if surgery is an option contact the Doodle Messenger and get the ball rolling for these dogs. Good luck!

I agree with you 100% Laurie.  I have been following this thread from the beginning and the bottom line seems to be that these puppies need help and their owner (who just happens to be a breeder) is trying to get that help for them.  I hope the others can get past the word choices and see the big picture here.  Billy, thank you for trying to do the best for these puppies and find them a forever home.  There are some big hearts here on this site and we will do whatever we can to help!

Unfortunately, I think the only option in terms of helping these 2 beautiful pups would be attempting to raise money for their surgeries through one of the organizations already mentioned.  At this point, as others have said, I think it would be nearly impossible for you to find someone to adopt these dogs in their current condition.  There will be no easy way out in this situation (and I do not mean to suggest that an easy way out is what you are looking for.)  I'm simply saying that now that you have taken these dogs back into your responsibility, the truly responsible thing to do would be to look into these surgeries and THEN consider adopting them out.  And like others have said, incredible things have been done on this site and through these organizations in terms of raising funds.  Good luck to you.

First I'd like to state that if these babies could be helped with surgery - I would also be one of the first to donate - my husband and I did for Hurley and I'd gladly do it for these two.  But I am also going to explain where my thoughts are coming from.  This is my personal take on the issue.

1.  The use of the word "Rescue" IS misleading - YOU are trying to be rescued from a situation you created because unless the surgery is an option - they can't be rescued from this horrid condition.  Many of us that have actual rescues take offense.  So right away - something in my mind seems off, why not just say they are in need of re-homing but then that wouldn't garner the same sympathy level.

2.  I look at your website - I know what the TERM Hobby breeder/kennel is.  Fewer than 5 litters a year, like I said and I stand behind - a hobby.  Professional breeders are not just for pure breed dogs, I have one dog from a breeder - a full time breeder who devotes her life to breeding and training.

3.  You did not volunteer to retire the Dam & Sire or offspring because of the hereditary condition till it was pointed out.

4.  You started looking  to RE-HOME these babies without first getting all the necessary exams, ex-rays etc. from a specialist or your vet first.  Re-homing without you doing the full health check is putting the cart in front of the horse.

5.  Class - first I'm not here to have or not have class - I'm not the one breeding dogs with hereditary problems - but I do have a question for you.  And I thought I was being classy by not pointing this out in public yesterday but now that you bring the issue up  - How much class does one have if they go about posting on user review web-sites - GIVING THEMSELVES GOOD REVIEWS?  Seems that if you look at Yelp, Judy's Book and Insider Pages - one Billy W. is giving AWESOME reviews to one (j&&&&&& Canines), who just happens to be yourself.  I'll spare you the advertising by not listing your kennels name.

6.  Later I'm going to post a picture of Sam - my dad's legitimate rescue who has megaE - I'd love to let everyone see what a mature dog (lucky to have lived this long) looks like and it isn't pretty.

Billy - you are in a business - so you have opened your business practices up for public debate or comment, so you have to be prepared to take what comes with that.  I do appreciate that you did not put these babies down and I say thank you for that.

You win Jane, I'll do what RESPONSIBLE breeders do and just have them put down.

Have a nice day.

I wasn't aware that there was a contest - and in this case if there is - I would call us all losers.  This is a forum for debate and comment.  You are intitled to yours, and even if you don't agree - I am intitled to mine.  I have not called you names - only stated my opinions and thoughts.  You were the one to bring up the issue of class and I have the right to respond.   At the end of the day - we all have to live with the choices we make.
